Cambridge Technical Level 3 Diploma

Also posted this in Secondary Ed but got no replies, so hoping to tap onto the knowledge of a wider audience!

DS is thinking of taking a Cambridge Technical Level 3 Diploma in Year 12/13. Specifically in IT. He would take it alongside an A Level.

I admit to never having heard of these before, and googling has only given me so much extra information.

I',m interested in hearing from anyone who's DC may have taken these and understanding how well they are regarded and what your DC went on to do. Any specific knowledge about the IT course, also welcome!

My dd did this alongside 2 A levels and gained distinction * in IT with it. She learnt so many useful skills with it. Although not using them all now she knows that it is a useful qualification to have as it teaches IT skills rather than computing (programming) skills which I u detest and businesses are now struggling finding young people with those skills because of the switch to computer science.

It's like a BTEC - just a different provider. DD did 3 Cambridge Technicals in different subjects and got Distinction Stars in all. She wouldn't have done anywhere near as well in A levels because exams just don't suit her (dyslexia, Aspergers, MH problems). Word of warning about IT - make sure the school / college are teaching up to date stuff within the course - DD was being taught a very old Microsoft operating system and also a very old version of a software package. That was the college's fault as the awarding body don't specify which version to teach - so may be different for your local school / college.
