So, it looks as they we may move to the Manchester area in the summer of 2021 from abroad. We will be looking for a good 6th form / college for my youngest who would be starting A-Levels. He has a pretty good idea of what he would like to study already. Is there somewhere I can go to compare colleges please? And do you need to live in a certain catchment area in order to apply please? Sorry for the silly questions, but haven't lived in the UK for a long, long time and am a bit lost. Thanks

Mmmm..I used ucas progress in the summer to search for local colleges and 6th forms in the summer but i just looked for it and it seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth!
Have you narrowed down where you are going to live yet? Perhaps you could do that and then do a google search of colleges and 6th forms in the area.
For A levels , he has the choice of joining a (11-18) secondary school’s 6th form (my dc has just moved into another schools 6th form for A levels) , a 6th form college (16-19) or a regular further education college (generally adults too) which offers A levels as well as vocational courses. Not all of the colleges do offer A levels by the way ( I live in the area and our local college does not)
Some school 6th forms attached to schools seem to still mention their catchment criteria but for most , the main criteria is that the student meets the entry requirements to do the A levels they want to do. You would need to check with each establishment as these vary too -ie some ask for a gcse grade 7 to do Maths A level whereas some will accept a grade 6.
People seem to travel far and wide for colleges and on the whole, the local ones here seem to have slightly lower entrance requirements for the A level courses than school 6th forms do.
Good luck

Not all sixth forms accept(ed?) applications via Progress - all our local ones had 'apply directly through institution' or whatever when I looked a couple of years ago.

Aah perhaps that’s why it bit the dust marching
Tbf I only used it for searching , not for applying

Have a look at the government website
www.compare-school.performance.gov.uk
As a starting point.
There are some great sixth forms, both private and state.
My nephew went to Aquinas college and loved it.
