Going up a grade to a 9 is great news Fos ! .. well done to your Dd on the fab result!Smile

Hoooo · 13/09/2019 08:40

Amazing achievement fos

Saucery · 13/09/2019 08:47

Thread fell off my TIO, it hardly seems to keep any on there Hmm

Glad everyone is starting to settle in.
DS hasn’t been this tired of an evening since he started Primary school Grin . Loving it though, the groups from other schools are starting to mix well in classes and leisure time. Off to learn research skills at a Uni library today. The things on offer are amazing set next to my well-meaning-but-a-bit-shit 6th form!

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 13/09/2019 09:45

So good to hear that everyone is settling in. I love that pp has to get boats to get to college. I will remind DD when she is complaining about her two 5 min trains. She does have a walk the other end, but only about 15 mins.

Good news on the remarks - I haven't yet seen anyone going down, I hope that is a good omen, although I know some have stayed the same. Fingers crossed for us. DD/school decided to put in 2 x History and 1 x Classics in the end, in the hope they go up to 9's. We haven't put in any others, even if they are close, as DD is not so bothered and school have said, German, for example, although only 2 off, was unlikely to come back changed. Also we have to pay, so it is costing £130 for those three papers. I am really doing it for DD confidence, she needs all the help she can get.

Had confirmation yesterday that ds' English lang review is going in. Fingers crossed that they find that extra mark somewhere for a grade 6!

Arewedone · 13/09/2019 14:37

Well done @Foslady, great result!
Fingers x everyone else still waiting.

Saucery · 13/09/2019 17:32

Turns out the research training was more a promotion exercise for the Uni Hmm It’s not one DS is interested in, so bit of a waste of time. Slightly annoyed by a whole afternoon wasted (me, not him) for a free pen and hoodie emblazoned with the Uni he won’t even be attending. It might come in handy for winter hill walking I suppose Grin but considering tution fees these days I would be a bit peeved to see them spent on promotional materials like that when it’s not even an official open day.

Foslady · 13/09/2019 18:38

@Saucery - that’s one heck of a freebie - I thought the memory sticks dd got were a big enough one!!! Ah well, you can always tell him to bung it on rather that turn the heating on!

Saucery · 13/09/2019 19:11

I know, Foslady, I’m just an old curmudgeon who remembers when you had to impress the Uni rather than the other way round Grin
Might donate it to local homeless shelter.

Foslady · 13/09/2019 20:14

No @Saucery, I think I’d have felt the same!

MollyButton · 14/09/2019 11:24

One of my DDs had a "trip" like that in Primary school it was basically trying to sell us as parents a certain Private secondary - they choose the girls to take part who were "well behaved" and might be able to afford private. Dd wasn't impressed but we did get a very nice highlighter.

Hoooo · 14/09/2019 11:32

The 6th form open days last year were great for swag!

I got about 20 pens, highlighters, etc

Saucery · 14/09/2019 13:23

That’s awful, Molly! Not the highlighter, obviously, who doesn’t love a free highlighter...

Theovertoad · 14/09/2019 23:51

Did and I were surprised at the lack of freebies at first uni day last weekend. I went to a few with Ds a few years back and Ds got pens, highlighters etc in a soft reusable bag practically forced on him.

Hoooo · 16/09/2019 07:57

Ds and I are NOT enjoying these early starts!

gleegeek · 16/09/2019 08:34

We're not either! Dd used to leave the house at 8:20 for secondary school, now it's nearly an hour earlier. It's mad because college is only 3 miles away but the bus service is rubbish and traffic builds up. Eugh!

D0ubleTheJoy · 16/09/2019 14:59

DS2 was encouraged to have one subject remarked - 2 points from the next grade up. Haven't heard anything from school still. DS just so casual "if I bump into the teacher, I'll ask her about it", trouble is he no longer takes that subject at A Level, so unlikely to see her and won't allow me to email the exams officer to check either. Sigh.

Hoooo · 16/09/2019 15:12

Same here!
He's never had to travel before either so that's something else that's new for him.
I now have to wake him at 6am 😫 so he's up, breakfasted and at the bus stop by 7.15am.
Ugh.

Theovertoad · 16/09/2019 21:48

Good luck for the remark double

It sounds like some of our dc have a much longer day to contend with and some very early starts!

Dd has changed 1 A level subject a week in. Has anyone else’s?

It was going to the uni open day that made her re-think as she realised she needed another science to keep her options open. She’s got all the notes she’s missed last week from other students so hopefully she can settle to it quickly

berlinbabylon · 17/09/2019 07:47

My ds hasn't had to travel before either - had a 7 min walk to secondary and less than that to primary! It's not too bad for him, he is getting up and leaving the house about 30 mins earlier than he did before. But he is very tired, I think it takes a little bit of time to get used to having to commute, whether work or college.

Hoooo · 17/09/2019 08:07

I think it's fairly common thetoad

Ds changed 1 of his but prior to enrollment.

Foslady · 17/09/2019 14:16

Dd is on the same site as school (which I still keep calling it - too deeply ingrained habit!!!) but is tired far more in an evening, but has also started waitressing a couple of nights a week so that doesn’t help.
She had a grumpy weekend - everything I said/did was wrong but now she’s getting more into a routine is calming down. I reminded her that it usually takes until October for the teachers to settle into a homework schedule and after that everything’s better which she agreed.
Builders should hopefully be out at the weekend so can order the carpet, have a mad week painting, carpet fitted then get her a new desk and moved into the new room which should also help.....

Arewedone · 17/09/2019 16:30

Checking in - non stop here getting DS ready to leave for Uni. He takes everything really calmly and in his stride I’m probably guilty of over mothering at this point!
Dd also very tired, tonnes of homework and lots of late nights trying to finish it culminating in 2 late marks, one more and its detention, school takes it far more seriously this year. Hopefully will make her re look at her time management.
Good look with the house Fos always stressful but worth it in the end!

ROZ12 · 17/09/2019 21:28

Hi

Dd changed a levels today and severely tired.

It is not helping that she has a week timetable , two teachers a week for each subject and two sets of homework from each teacher for each subject. Is this the same for all sixth forms?

Hoooo · 17/09/2019 21:46

Ds hasn't had much homework tbh.

Dh and I have an open evening next week so we can ask re: homework
