Taking a holiday at Easter of year 13

Thinking of skiing next year, we always go as a big family group during the Easter holidays. Would it be mad to let DD go - a hard-worker and would manage at least 2-3 hours revision per evening?

I'd say yes!
What if she broke or sprained a wrist?

derryrose · 10/08/2019 12:46

Yes it would. Very often at that stage teachers set coursework deadlines over Easter depending when it is. I teach a-level and usually final drafts are due after Easter in my subject.

Shouldn't you be asking your DD if she wants to go? Personally I wouldn't. When DD did her GCSEs last year, she had revision classes most days at Easter. I know she needs to work really hard if she is going to get the grades for the course she wants to take next.

DD cycles at a velodrome. We banned it from March until after her exams last year. Someone I know broke their wrist the week before their professional exams earlier this year. They were offered an extra 10 minutes per paper to compensate for their wrist being innpkaster.

YABU It would be an unwise thing to do.

I'd say don't go. I have just finished year 13 and I spent my Easter holiday revising for A Levels. I didn't have much of a chance to revise before that due to homework so the Easter holidays were when I really started properly. Also you also can't revise properly while on holiday.

I have to say I wouldn't go ski-ing. I was worried about ds going for bike rides immediately before his GCSEs in case he came off and injured his writing hand. That would be multiplied 100 times over for a ski trip.

No way for me
Have done 4/5 nights of short haul beach hol at those times tho. They got about 4-5 hours of work done each day, plenty of sleep and relax around pool

I wouldn't do skiiing. I would do, and have done, a short week away as long as your DD was up to date with work, including any coursework she might have/draft EPQ etc. DD1 went through Yr 13 this year and we had time away at Easter plus a weekend at summer half term. It was fine, but she's diligent and had been revising.

It's worth remembering that a lot of the homework they get up to Easter is revision in itself.

I am in the same situation and we are going away for a short break. It’s good to have a break and recharge the batteries.

IdiotInDisguise · 21/09/2019 17:29

I would avoid the holidays, it will be stressful for her so I doubt she will enjoy it. Another thing to consider is that the online study aids she uses at school, may have restricted access or not be accessible abroad..

... and that goes before considering the possibility of an accident.

Berthatydfil · 21/09/2019 17:30

Omg don’t go. She will need to be doing more than a couple of hours a day, and let’s face it is that really going to happen after a days skiing?
What if she hurts herself .
There could also be revision sessions on during the break, course work completion etc.
