A level choices - Geology?

My DD will be chosing A level subjects shortly. This will be a matter of elimination of the subjects she does not want to do (and hopefully we will end up with 3). She will likely get 8 or 9 GCSEs at levels 6 -7. She is thinking of Biology, Chemistry and Geography but Geography is probably her best subject. Does anyone's kids do Geology, Sociology, Psychology or Philosophy? I want to get a feel for how challenging they are. DD struggles to process large bits of information and prefers smaller chunks... I did not do Geography myself but I view that as (perhaps mistakenly) "easier" than, say, English Lit or History - does anyone have a view? Is Geology a bit "easier"? What about any others? DS has just done History GCSE and I do feel that has been a disproportionate amount of learning and time. So anyone's view/experience would be welcome. Please note I know that there are no "easy" A levels but I thinks some must be easier to chunk up than others and perhaps are fairer in the testing because they don't just focus on only one area of the curriculum in the exam (like GCSE history seems to).

They are A Levels, so all challenging!

My DD did Anthropology and Sociology and really enjoyed both courses.

Hi, I’m a Geologist married to a Geologist and both my brothers are also Geologists, married to Geologists! I did A level Maths, Chemistry and Physics. DH did Geography, Geology and Chemistry (early 1990s). He advises that the Geology syllabus he studied was not at all numbers; IME unless you get very into geophysics or geochemistry there are no numbers other than the concept of time. It’s a very essay and fieldwork based subject - you really need to be quite outdoorsy to get the most out of Geology. There is a lot of cross over with Chemistry and Geography.

DS loved Geology A level, did it 5 years ago. He was surprised at the amount of chemistry it involved and had to work extra hard on that element of the course. The fieldwork section was ‘amazing’

DS1 does philosophy and psychology (along with English) and enjoys both.
He finds the biology aspects of psychology the most challenging but the maths element is easy. He says the grade barriers are very narrow, though.
Philosophy is fascinating and it's his favourite but it is quite a challenge to get high marks! He is very pleased he chose it, though.

Interesting so far - thanks for all that. Geology sounds like it might be good - especially if not heavy on maths!

Why not work back from possible courses at university? It’s the old debate about keeping doors open. Her choice of Geography, Biology and Chemistry definitely do this. Swapping Chemistry for Geology wouldn’t hurt. If she wants to do Geography at university, it’s a good combination.

I’m not sure what the other subjects add. If she wants Sociology, Psychology or Philosophy at university, they make sense but Sociology and Philosophy sit better with essay subjects. None of these are “facilitating” subjects, or whatever they are now called, so that’s why she should look at possible degree options and work backwards. What she has chosen is good for Environmental science, for example. So look at what she might like to do but be careful about her lack of maths A level.

I did philosophy and just took the exams. There's no coursework just 2x 3 hour exams, with a few essays but not actually that bad. The easiest of my three once you get the hang of it.
The content is 1/4 on God
1/4 definition of knowledge
1/4 about the mind
1/4 about morality

Only the god section is like RE it's mostly different content.
