Dd is doing an A-level in English Lit.

After years of drumming into her and Ds that copying and pasting from Wiki is not good & discussions about how unreliable it can be as a source she’s now getting g quite cross about what she sees as lazy teaching.

Basically the teacher is printing off pages from Wikipedia and handing them to the students as class notes.

Dd got 9 & 8 for English GCSE’s and is predicted A* for A Level but she feels she’s not getting much it of lessons. Now she is motivated & I know textbooks/Lit crits are expensive but surely they should be studying more in depth than this?

Bumping as it’s dropped off active - though perhaps FE isn’t a very busy topic.

YANBU - while wikipedia can be a good source for gaining a basic understanding or as a starting point to find other references the teacher should not be using it as class notes. It is possible that the teacher is not particularly comfortable with the text and is struggling but there is tons of online sources which are far more reliable and can be quoted. The teacher could even set the students to research the various themes and give presentations to each other.

YANBU
From your title I thought you meant by the students but a teacher shouldn't be using it.
English Lit isn't my subject but used to moderate A level coursework for another subject and there were no marks for using wiki as a source!

The page I saw that she was given was on a particular poem. I know she said she was given something similar a couple of weeks ago.

This teacher is new to the school. I know she was happy with her GCSE teaching. She wants to put in a formal complaint.

As Dragons mentions there are loads of free on-line resources for English literature, so am surprised the teacher is using wiki.
For ds's course groups of students were given poems/texts to analyse (with a few guiding questions from the teacher) and then asked to present to the class.
Perhaps ask the teacher what other resources s/he recommends.

Hi Comefromaway. Does she know what texts she'll be studying because if they are handing out wiki pages she'd be better off with Cliff notes or York notes. You can get second hand versions usually on www.abebooks.co.uk We have picked up some books really cheaply on there.
