In 2013 367 people took A level Latin, so let's guess 350 took it in 2017. The A level or equivalent is a pre-requisite for Classics at Oxford or Cambridge. 32 state school students took up places at Cambridge to read 3 or 4 year Classics and 86 took up places at Oxford. If you take A level Latin in a state school, it could be argued that you have at least a 33% chance of reading Classics at Oxbridge. Therefore, if you want to go to Oxbridge and don't care which degree you take, do A level Latin in the state sector for a good shot at getting a place.
