Kilash congratulations on the new job! I do feel sorry for your DS but hopefully something good will turn up soon to make up for the initial disappointment.
I had a very enjoyable time at DS's school concert last night. I had to be a bit restrained on the way home when he admitted I'd been right about a number of things to do with GCSE options! I told him I'm going to use him as backup when DS2 chooses options next term! In his defence, DS has come a long way in just one term of sixth form - just hope he can keep the momentum going.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 14/12/2018 16:50

Kilash, well done on the job! Loose it’s nice when they mature enough to acknowledge you might know a thing or two. Grin

I picked up DS3’s GCSE certificates today. His old school had a session on Monday, 3.15 - 4pm for ex students to pick up certificates, would have been nice if DS could have made that but his current school doesn’t finish until 3.40 and is 6 miles away.

Properly the end of an era. Last time ever I’ll go to that school where DS1, 2 & 3 did their 7-11 years. 9 years altogether.

DS3 finally got his UKMT SMC results which were given out today with their certificates at his new sixth form. He got 91, which made him best in year 12. I think that means he got 2 4 mark questions wrong to lose 10 marks as he knew his maximum was 101. Pleased for him because he was best in year at his old school but he’s an unknown quantity in his new sixth form, but is making a good name for himself in the maths dept at least. Xmas Smile

Oratory1 · 14/12/2018 18:08

Congratulations Kilash and to loose and Ellen ds (maturing nicely 😀😀)

Sostenueto · 14/12/2018 18:51

PandaG · 14/12/2018 20:03

Well done Kilash!

Good to see you Sost, sorry to hear you are in hospital again, glad you are improving.
DD at youth group Christmas party, DS going out with students from our church, we have a rare night in, so takeaway ordered and bottle of red about to be ordered!

TheFirstOHN · 14/12/2018 21:28

Kilash congratulations on the new job.

Yes, G8 exam is on Thursday (thank you for remembering). He must be one of the last to take it this term. I think I'll be almost as relieved when it's over as I was at the end of his GCSEs.

TheFirstOHN · 14/12/2018 21:35

EllenJanesthickerknickers well done to your DS3, that's a great score.

I think the kangaroo results are available, but I don't know what DS2 got.

Jinglebells99 · 14/12/2018 21:48

@Sostenueto sorry to hear that you have been poorly and I hope that you are now on the mend.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 14/12/2018 23:36

I hope you’re back home soon, Sost. Flowers Glad to hear your DGD is doing so well.

Not expecting kangaroo results until Easter at this rate, First. The very best of luck with G8 exam to your DS2.

TheFirstOHN · 15/12/2018 05:16

I know some of you on this thread enjoy looking at exam data, so here's an early Christmas present from me:

The Ofqal reports for the summer 2018 GCSE exams are here

LooseAtTheSeams · 15/12/2018 09:05

Sostenueto wishing you a very speedy recovery and that you get to go home soon! Thanks lovely news for DGD!
Poor MiL has had a fall and broken her ankle. She has to stay in hospital for now until she can put some weight on the damaged leg and I'm not sure they'll be able to let her go home before Christmas. She is understandably not impressed!

veiledsentiments · 15/12/2018 09:18

Haven't been on here for a while, but my news is not good. Youngest decided to drink before the 6th form school Christmas dinner. On an empty stomach. On school premises. Which has resulted in a 3 day suspension at the beginning of next term. What an idiot.
However, eldest is coming today, and will arrive in the early hours of tomorrow morning. Been over 3 months since I've seen her. She got a first for her module at University, and seems to have settled down to it really well, likes the place, has made good friends, and is enjoying her course.
I guess you can't have everything!

whistl · 15/12/2018 10:54

veiled that's nothing more than naivety what he did. He'll learn his lesson, the hard way unfortunately, but at least he will never do it again.

Do suspensions go into university references or will this be the end of it?

TheFirstOHN · 15/12/2018 12:42

veiledsentiments it's a mistake that many young people make. Just a bit unfortunate that it happened at school. Glad your DD has settled in well.

Oratory1 · 15/12/2018 12:51

veiled there are a lot worse things to get suspended for !!!

Hi sost wishing you a good recovery and glad to hear DGD doing well,

Still awaiting end of term report for an indication of how DS is doing in terms of attainment but he's loved this term and loved boarding and has good effort grades and some end of term awards for, as he put it, ''doing some good stuff'' So all good so far.

LimitIsUp · 15/12/2018 13:19

Feel better soon Sost - glad to hear that all is well with dgd
Well done Kilash - great news on the new job
Sorry to hear about MIL Loose - bum timing
Veiled - I like a bit of muted teenage rebellion (nothing too radical). The three day suspension will be a salutary lesson and is early enough in the Sixth form to be forgotten about by teaching staff long before University references etc are required.

LimitIsUp · 15/12/2018 13:25

"Do suspensions go into university references or will this be the end of it?"

Re the above whistl, I would like to think that most schools would prefer to give the best possible account of their students to Universities and would choose not to mention something like this in a reference - unless there was a pattern of disciplinary issues with a student? I don't know though - I'd just like to think they would play it that way

veiledsentiments · 15/12/2018 16:40

Honestly I was the worst kid being stuck in boarding school for 10 years. Am always trying to make it better for my two. Sometimes they DRIVE me mad. But what can you do. Love them both.

Kilash · 15/12/2018 19:38

DS piano teacher just called - his Grade 8 result is in...132 which is a Distinction. DS and I are both blown away by his achievement - particularly as he got 19/21 for sight reading (we had many a toddler style tantrum over practicing this!) What an end to the week.

Stickerrocks · 15/12/2018 19:43

Kilash wow!

Veiled think of the stories he will be able to tell his own kids.

TheFirstOHN · 15/12/2018 23:32

Kilash that's brilliant! Well done to him!

ShalomJackie · 16/12/2018 10:05

Just touching base from whatvwas supposed to bs sunnoer climes - thunder and lightning storms instead! Hopefully it will clear up!

Congrats to Kilash on SMC and grade 8 awesomeness.

Get well soon Sost.

The inclement weather has at least led to DS saying I might as well get on with my notes then. We carried books across all 3 hand luggage bags as we didn't want in disappearing in lost suitcases! 2 years ago one case didn't turn up for 5 days but at least it did!

242Mummy · 16/12/2018 10:23

Well done Kilash's DS! Isn't it fantastic when they finish the grades with a bang! DS1 is going on to take his ARSM performing diploma - is this something your DS is interested in too?

LooseAtTheSeams · 16/12/2018 11:20

Kilash that is brilliant - congratulations to DS!
Veiled I think this is all part of the learning experience. He won’t make that mistake again!
MiL is doing OK - not good timing but she seems very pragmatic about it all. They might let her home next week but no promises.

KingscoteStaff · 16/12/2018 13:38

Well done Kilash’s musician!
DS is doing his G8 next term - No rugby next term so hopefully more time to spend on scales.
