Having a baby in student accommodation

Hi, I'm in my last year of university and I've got a tenancy agreement until August next year.
Only problem is I'm (unexpectedly - yes we were using protection) pregnant and will likely give birth in May/June. I'm really happy about it but I don't know where I'll be able to live.

I don't know what to do, but I can't live in student accommodation with a new born. I don't know what my options or rights are. I'm terrified.
The father and I want to live together but we are both in student accommodation until aug 2019 and I can't afford anywhere alone.

I can't find any information about what to do in this situation. The CAB is never open, does it even exist anymore? I'm at my wits end.

I would speak to the university as your first port of call. You won't be the first to have a baby in this situation. Could you ask around and see if anyone would want to takeover your room? Also, are you and the father at the same uni/same accommodation?

For what it's worth I do know someone who had a baby whilst living in a student houseshare. They were there for a couple of months I think. Not ideal by any stretch but potentially doable as a last resort, depending on the setup.

Also, congratulations Flowers

Don't be terrified, more people with better suggestions will come along. Something will get figured out somehow and it will all be ok. This time next year the accommodation issue will be old news and you'll be looking forward to the first Christmas with your baby!

Congratulations on your pregnancy Speak to your University asap. They may suggest you defer this year as you'd be doing your finals with a newborn and getting very little sleep.

All will seem better as soon as you have so e good advice, and congratulations! Flowers

Yes,definitely cab, they certainly do exist and your student support services will be able to help you too. They will no doubt have a process and know what steps to help you.

Lovely positive responses for you from pps too Smile

Try to rest plenty, and I don't know it you're a student thats on it with the nutrition, but you need to be now!! You'll need lots of good fresh stuff, and supplements.

I hope the lovely responses have calmed you a little...and yes this time next year it will all be sorted and you'll be doing baby's first Christmas!

Speak to the uni they may have houses on campus and suspect they've seen this before, multiple times!

Go speak to your guidance. In my experience, they are really helpful with this. Also, don’t feel you have to defer. I did my last final in the early stages of labour. It can be done! Congrats!

When is your due date and when are your final exams? The onvious solution is to move out of your accomodation and into a new place early. From the moment your exams are done you'll be not a student and will be eligible for benefits inc housing benefit. Can your parents help with a deposit? Or could you go home?

Thanks for all the support :) I was too emotional to reply at the time but some of the replies really helped me thank you!

I will be giving birth after my exams so it's not an issue for me to finish the year, but I'm in student accommodation for a few months after the due date which is what I was worrying about.
But I'm allowed to stay in it, it's not ideal but it's better than a shelter.
