Algebra

I'm 50 and I'm on a Higher Tier GCSE Maths course at a local college.

I'm not doing too badly, but algebra is driving me nuts.

I have a total block when it comes to manipulation of equations, making x the subject of, factorising, simplifying and all the rest.

Are there any resources which can help break it down for me.

I have a ridiculous number of text books already at differing levels, flash cards, DVDs and CD-ROMs.

I need to nail these exams next year.

Can anyone recommend something/someone?

I believe Corbettmaths and Hegartymaths on youtube are supposed to be good.

Good luck!

Definitely a you tube clip.

There are often three or four different ways of approaching questions. when DS1 shows me his algebra calculations, how he views it in his head it's a totally different way to how I do things.
you probably need to see the three or four different ways of approaching it and to understand them all and then find out which one you prefer or at least know the various different ways of approaching it.

Thanks.

Have you tried using a one on one tutor?

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 09/11/2018 14:39

Looking for one, but they're pricey.

My hopeless at maths DD only needed 3 sessions. You learn much more in a one in one session than you do in a classroom.

Thank you.
