Delighted for DS, managed to turn 2 low grade AS levels into two starred Distinctions and a Distinction.

Off to uni to do computer science, with an extra year's maturity, too!

Hope others are as happy x

Yes, same results here and dd off to Guildhal to study Technical Theatre.
Proud parents!

Yes with two Distinction Stars and a Distinction! My daughter is going to Huddersfield for Film Studies! We couldn’t be prouder Smile

Well done to your adult children.

As a previous BTEC teacher it's lovely to hear success stories.

Floottoot · 16/08/2018 13:26

Puddleglum, hope you don't mind me jumping in, but it looks likely that DD will end up doing BTECs ( she has SEN) and she is very keen on drama. Are you able to give a bit of background to what path your DD has taken to get to where she is now? Our DD is just starting year 10 so it would be good to know what she needs to think about over the next few years.

Coincidentally, I went to Guildhall on the graduate music course. 😀 Huge congratulations to your DD - she will have a fantastic time!

sash, I actually think that, given that DS has done nothing but computer science for 2 years, he'll be at an advantage over A level students, coupled with that year's extra maturity and knowing what 'failure' feels like!

Hi yes DS got two distinctions and has place confirmed at Brighton. What a long morning it's been !

bruffin · 16/08/2018 13:49

Yes DD got a 3x Distinction * for a health and social care btec. She is going to Cardiff to do Occupational Therapy. She will be 21 the week before she goes. She will have a couple of years extra maturity but I thing for the course she will be doing she needs it. She also now has a lot of practical experience through her BTec , volunteering and paid work and this summer spent in the US at a summer camp with an integrated SEN scheme.

bruffin · 16/08/2018 13:54

I am really really proud of her, because she had to leave the UK for Camp America on 5th June which meant she was missing the last half term and missing some units. She worked hard self studying to get those units done before she went, so very proud of her getting maximum scores for the course.

Blushah

I'm sure he will.

I've told many a BTEC student they may hate me now but will thank me at uni, that was usually about referencing and insisting on Harvard.

My subject, health and social care for BTEC (strangely GCSE and A Level computer science) is, IMHO, a much better preparation for nursing than A Levels.

TeenTimesTwo · 16/08/2018 14:27

Congratulations to your DS. Glad his saga has had a happy ending.

Blushah · 16/08/2018 15:55

Thanks teentimestwo! It's been 'an adventure' to say the least 🙄 but among other things, as I've said before, one perspective it's given DS is the fact that a) it is possible to crash out of the straight and narrow of GCSE/A level/ uni by being an idiot at 15-17; and b) if you take a good hard look at yourself, you can turn it around. Especially if your mum, via discovering the Extended Diploma from a work colleague then researching it on here, informs you as you are bombing your AS's that she will not tolerate you doing nothing. It's either another course or full-time work, sonny. 😊

We are still getting 'moments' of arms folded glaring with the odd door slam, but they are being overtaken by the emergence of a decent young man!
