What grades did the Uni accept vs the original offers.

Wondering if they will still take my DC if they drop one grade or two?

Yes, very often they will.
It is a moveable feast however.
Depends on the University, the course, the results of every other student taking A-Levels that year.

GnomeDePlume · 29/07/2018 07:36

As BackforGood says, it depends.

DD2 is applying for Chemical Physics. Sheffield said to applicants not to worry if they dropped a grade as they would still be accepted onto the course. Bristol didnt make the same statement. Both offered DD2 AAB.

DS had a firm of ABB with Birmingham and an "insurance" of ABB at Leeds. He got BBB. Birmingham said no, Leeds were happy to take him. He was disappointed for about ten minutes not to go to Birmingham, and has loved Leeds. About to start his second year. I think it all depends on the take up of places.

I have two dses at uni. Ds3 has just done his A levels. I’m bricking it, but all my friends with dc in same year are saying this is a year like no other because of new A levels. He’ll be lucky to get three Ds; we’ll see if he gets where he wants to go. I doubt it quite honestly.

Remember it's a buyers market, one of the years of fewest 18 year olds and they need bums on seats to get their money in!

ds needed A*AA for his first choice university. He got AAA and was declined, so went with his insurance, an RG university that required AAB.

DS1 met his offer (Physics A*AA, top ten uni) but his course was in clearing at AAA.

As others have said, there are variables. And universities have to balance the benefits of bums on seats vs. the fact that the average entry tariff is one of the components that affects their place in league tables. So, it's not quite a "buyer's market".

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 02/08/2018 13:27

As others have said it depends on the university and the course in question.

DD initially missed her offer of A*AA and got AAA, her first choice university accepted her before she had a remark as she had performed well at interview.
However another girl from her school applying to the same university but for a different course had the same results and she was declined so went to her insurance choice.

One of DD's five choices also had an A*AA admission requirement and they went into clearing and were accepting BBB.

DS had offers of AAA for Computer Science for Warwick and Birmingham. He got AAC. Warwick (his firm) said no, Birmingham said yes.
