I just enrolled in a TEFL course in Madrid, Spain. Getting TEFL certified will probably open new career opportunities in my life.
I hope to find more american students like me living in Spain.
This is the school I will be attending tefl-madrid.com/

If you want to do something really interesting you could volunteer with Estacion Inglesa.... a week's free stay in a four stay hotel in exchange for talking English all day: it's intense but fascinating...... and would look good on your CV.
The only condition is to be a native speaker of English and to want to talk to people.

OOOps that's a four STAR hotel

A friend did that Calatonia said it was fab but exhausting! But yes, great on your cv.

I don't have experience of Tefling in Madid. In Barcelona there were tons of business classes through academies available, ergo lots of travelling between jobs and classes around 7.30-10am, 12-3pm and 6pm+ . Children-teenage classes are post-school, so 5pm+, some academies teach teens, uni students and adults anything from 5pm-10pm.

Private xlasses are great if you can find them, but unreliable: 'i'm on holiday next week...', 'it's my saint's day..', 'it's puente...'. Try and get a month's cash up front and cancellation policy.

Sounds shite Grin but Tefling is fun, i've been doing it for years. Enjoy your course.

Everyone was telling me to go to Barcelona but with all the political issues lately and riots, I'd rather to go to Madrid.
It is safe and I hear that people speak only Spanish unlike Catalans speak another dialect.
I'm taking Spanish classes too.

Muchos lolz as Catalan being another dialect Grin you sound madrileño already! In Spain the recognised languages are Castellano (or just plain old Spanish to you and me), Catalan (about 3million native speakers), Gallego (Gallician) and Vasco (Basque). Jury's out on Valencian, it's fighting for recognition.

Bar elona is multicultural and you'll hear a lot more Spanish on the streers than Catalan. It's when you get put to the 'sticks' like Girona, Tarragona, Tortosa, Lleida that Catalan is more prevalent.

I lived in Barcelona 5 years and felt safe, even now nearly a year on from the attacks last year i feel safe. Pickpockets and muggers are the real threat and i never had a problem either living there or visiting in the 13 years since i left.

Enjoy Madrid Smile

Catalan is a separate language. Like French or Italian or Romanian or Portuguese is a separate language. Similar in lots of ways to Spanish but not a dialect.
