Y13 Summer term: Finishing Lessons, Starting Exams and leaving Sixth Form

catslife · 22/04/2018 15:07

So our dcs are now on the last term of sixth form, finishing off lessons and starting their exams.
How did that happen - doesn't seem that long ago since they started Y12.
This is the thread where we support each other as our dcs revise and start their exams, finish off coursework, leave sixth form and make plans for what to do with the rest of their lives. This may involve going to uni or other alternatives.
Every Y13 parent is welcome to join in whether new to these threads or if you have been with us for a while - the more the merrier.

Same here BitOut
I find sewing and knitting so boring that I have never built up an aptitude for them.

flatmouse · 24/04/2018 20:46

Fantastic result @BitOutOfPractice. @Nettleskeins that sounds like an amazing epq idea. I'd say make sure she reads the specification at the start and she'll be fine! Really wish I'd thought of that to show DS.
Good news here, chemistry teacher really pleased with his improvement. (Couldn't exactly get worse Wink)

doistayordoigo · 24/04/2018 22:29

I'm here. Congratulations on some amazing coursework results! Wish things were better here...mock marks for three maths exams were 42, 35 and 8(!) out of 75. Thankfully biology mark was much better, so hopefully more time can be put into maths revision. I'm hoping he's sticking to the agreement we out in place, but who knows.

In terms of crafts, I cross-stitch but can't knit to save my life!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/04/2018 23:36

Lobster, how about strawberry jam?

puppypower1 · 24/04/2018 23:38

Gosh this thread moves quickly! Well done for some wonderful coursework marks. 👏👏. Mocks were mixed here so hopefully the next month will be full of intense revision to fill in those gaps and get some sort of exam technique. I wish I could knit, draw, play an instrument etc...... instead I go to the gym and lift weights, or box or go running to try and stay sane but I'd love to be creative.

Dd is just so tired. Apparently she had a nap in the sixth form common room this morning, fell asleep in an after school revision class tonight then went for a 15 minute lie down when we got back from the farm and woke up at 9.30 pm as she was hungry.

LoniceraJaponica · 25/04/2018 06:25

My DR is exhausted as well. She fell asleep in chemistry yesterday.

catslife · 25/04/2018 09:36

Day 2 of dds Graphics exam was "very good" apparently. She has completed some of her pieces. Final day is Friday.
Controlled assessments are going "OK".
Overall this is a good sign - taking the OK to mean as expected.

DD1 was supposed to have the viva (sp?) for her EPQ today but has had to cancel last minute due to a very scary and worrying urgent medical referral. I am a mess. So is she Sad

LoniceraJaponica · 25/04/2018 09:55

Oh no BitOutOfPractice
Hope everything is OK Flowers

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/04/2018 11:48

Oh no BOOP. I hope it all turns out to be ok.

puppypower1 · 25/04/2018 11:51

Hope all is ok, Bit

BitOutOfPractice · 25/04/2018 12:16

I'm like a coiled spring and I know she's in bits too.

HesMyLobster · 25/04/2018 12:52

Oh Boop that sounds very worrying. I hope everything turns out to be ok, thinking of you both Thanks

chocolateworshipper · 25/04/2018 13:40

I'm so sorry to hear that Bit I do hope all will turn out to be less concerning than it seems. Big hugs to you and your DD.

Nettleskeins · 25/04/2018 14:22

Boop hope they can put your mind at rest, or give best possible help after referral.

Ursula ds1 came home yesterday very happy [had a very good day mum], then went to bed for a little rest, and was asleep from 5.30pm until morning! We woke him for supper and he said he just wanted to continue his sleep, as he "didn't have any homework". It is amazing how you can sleep when you relax..

he had a chat with his teacher about his music offers, and the teacher agreed that it was probably best to go for the secure place...[which of course he hasn't properly visited (although he hasn't admitted this to his school because he took the day off 2 months ago, then decided not to bother) [aargh] only for a brief interview and a cup of coffee in a portacabin on what appeared to be a building site.. Still his mind is now made up, possibly because the less he knows the calmer he feels Confused

I pray to heaven than he will press the button this evening and put us all out of our misery..

Nettleskeins · 25/04/2018 14:27

So far I have put aside a fishslice, a teapot, an eggbeater, a platter, and an oven glove. (this is whilst decluttering)There are also three butter dishes in this house, but what student uses a butter dish? A big bedspread in subtle grey and ash stripes from 1970s and several towels.

LoniceraJaponica · 25/04/2018 15:49

What student uses a teapot Nettleskins?

BitOutOfPractice · 25/04/2018 16:22

Thanks for the good wishes. Turns out to be nothing to worry about. I have never been as scared and then relieved in my life.

Icouldbeknitting · 25/04/2018 16:33

I'm glad I was late so got the all clear at the same time as the medical alert.

I have a spare frying pan put aside and two new towels are being run in so they are nice and absorbent when he needs them.

LoniceraJaponica · 25/04/2018 16:40

Long face from DD. She got a D in geography. She got an A at AS and an A in the December mock. I just hope the school have marked hard so they do better in the real thing.

Glad to hear the good news BOOP.

TeresasGreen · 25/04/2018 16:43

Phew! That is good news Boop

marmiteloversunite · 25/04/2018 17:15

Lonicera was that for her coursework? Is that the final mark? It is so hard when they are gutted about a mark but then have to pick themselves up and carry on revising. We had a crappy evening last night but DD is back into it today. What with A levels and a poorly dad with dementia I just need all of this to be done now. Feels like the longest journey ever!

derekthe1adyhamster · 25/04/2018 17:15

Like knitting, I am pleased to have just read all of this! What great news boop!
DS says this term is going ok, and he's doing better than his mocks. I can only trust him.
I paid some of his money towards his gap year experience, and looked into yearly travel insurance. It's about £35, which seems quite reasonable

LoniceraJaponica · 25/04/2018 17:40

No, it was the mock she did a couple of weeks ago. She got an A in the December one. Others didn't do well either. The coursework is due in on Friday.
