Y13 Summer term: Finishing Lessons, Starting Exams and leaving Sixth Form

catslife · 22/04/2018 15:07

So our dcs are now on the last term of sixth form, finishing off lessons and starting their exams.
How did that happen - doesn't seem that long ago since they started Y12.
This is the thread where we support each other as our dcs revise and start their exams, finish off coursework, leave sixth form and make plans for what to do with the rest of their lives. This may involve going to uni or other alternatives.
Every Y13 parent is welcome to join in whether new to these threads or if you have been with us for a while - the more the merrier.

WHERE???????

TheSecondOfHerName · 19/05/2018 14:32

I'm going to a local festival today. It started out as a canal festival then grew bigger each year. Battle of Britain Lancaster fly by today and Dakota tomorrow.

My friends are in a band which usually plays at smaller stages at this event. They're playing at the main stage today and I'm really pleased for them.

Nettleskeins · 19/05/2018 20:59

I've been to "On Chesil Beach" today - only 7 people at the screening, I felt like a bit of nutter Blush So sad/poignant, and there was I thinking they were going to change the ending NOOOO, it was still sad. Saiorse Ronan looked very odd old, they should have had middle aged lady actors instead Angry, ditto the male lead.

LoniceraJaponica · 19/05/2018 23:51

Thursday morning over Derwent Ursula
Details here

UrsulaPandress · 19/05/2018 23:56

I'm cross. I told DH that they wouldn't do it on another day as there is only one 75th anniversary. But I suppose it was overnight so probably crept in to the 17th. What really got my goat is that the weather has been bloody perfect for weeks apart from that one day.

Oh well. Yanks weekend here we come.

LoniceraJaponica · 20/05/2018 00:03

They did it so they could fly the one remaining member of the original squadron over Derwent. Given that he is now 96 I guess they didn't want to put it off.

HesMyLobster · 21/05/2018 10:30

Phew! Final Latin GCSE Done this morning, so DD can finally focus completely on her actual A Levels!

Final week of school before half term/study leave too, feeling quite surreal for both of us.
DD has just said she doesn't want to leave - think the realisation is starting to sink in.

FantasyAndHope · 21/05/2018 11:02

I bet that’s a relief lobster
Last week of school here. Dd is relived and is thankful it’s over. Ex friends have ramped the nastiness up this week
Dd is still toddling on

HesMyLobster · 21/05/2018 11:15

Fantasy your poor DD, I can't believe they haven't grown out of all this bitchiness.
Onwards and upwards for your DD once she gets away from there and starts again in London!

LoniceraJaponica · 21/05/2018 11:46

I wish I could give your DD a hug Fantasy. The bitchiness of some girls takes my breath away. DD had a horrific year 10, so I know how it feels. At least your DD knows that she will be leaving it behind for ever. I hope her eye problems get resolved as well.

starfleet · 21/05/2018 11:51

Only a few days left for her Fantasy she can get through it with the thought that she never has to see them again.

Last few days here for DS - he finishes on Wednesday. he said it hasn't actually sunk in yet. I usually do cards for his close friends - just a general good luck etc with exams, this time round I've bought them all a copy of "Oh The Places You'll Go" by Dr Seuss. It made me weep a little when I was reading it this weekend as the sentiment of the words is so apt.

marmiteloversunite · 21/05/2018 12:01

My DD suffers with bitchy girls too. I really thought they would outgrow it. She is looking forward to making friends with the same interests at uni. It seems if you like classical music you are a bit of a geek! Confused

LoniceraJaponica · 21/05/2018 12:09

"It seems if you like classical music you are a bit of a geek!"

It has always been thus marmite

UrsulaPandress · 21/05/2018 12:55

Last few days here too. DD has started stressing about the exams which makes her snappy and irritable.

At least the weather looks set fair for the Palace on Thursday.

I suddenly panicked in the night that she won't make any proper friends at Uni and will have to live in Halls for 3 years. Honestly, why oh why do I look for troubles from tomorrowConfused

HesMyLobster · 21/05/2018 13:12

My DD is another who is yet to find her tribe. Apparently liking anything "Classical" makes you a bit of a geek!
She can't wait to find like minded people at university. I think it's the teachers and the familiarity, rather than the fellow students she's reluctant to leave at 6th Form!

I've had the same panic Ursula - even though she's already started making friends online in the offer holders messenger group, who she already has far more in common with than anybody from school.

HesMyLobster · 21/05/2018 13:16

Ooh the Palace on Thursday Ursula, missed that bit!
Exciting! Did your DD find an acceptable outfit in the end - I can't find it upthread!

It looks like DD's visit won't be until Autumn now as no invitation through yet. I'm a little bit disappointed - summer seems a much cheerier time to go!

You'll have to give us a full blow by blow so we know what to expect!
Also, what are you going to wear?

UrsulaPandress · 21/05/2018 13:42

Yes she has finally found an outfit that meets her requirements, and everyone's approval.

Thankfully I'm not going. I'm too crippled to cope with the walking and standing, and too fat to compete with the yummy mummies who are going. I'm throwing DH into the fray..

FantasyAndHope · 21/05/2018 15:09

It’s ridiculous marmite realistically in the eyes of the law their not girls there women. Grown women who are adults who can vote and all they want to do is be mean...
Some of the parents encourage it and have even said or gruntled at dd If she sees them
Around
That must be a relief ursula

Downeyhouse · 21/05/2018 15:27

Fantasy those girls sound awful.
I hope none of them are going anywhere near your daughter’s Uni?

chocolateworshipper · 21/05/2018 18:25

Big hugs to your DD Fantasy It's so hard seeing them go through something like that Sad

DD has her final grade (subject to external moderation) for subject 3 - a Distinction overall. So that's one D* and one D so far. Still waiting for subject 2 .

raspberryrippleicecream · 21/05/2018 20:35

Well done to your DD Chocolate.

Not long now Fantasy.

DD had her last instrument lesson at school today. end of an era.

DS1 ended up, unintentionally, at uni with half a dozen friends. He shares a house this year with 2 friends, one of whom he has known since he was 4. He has made plenty of new friends too. DD was determined not to end up in a similar situation!

FantasyAndHope · 21/05/2018 20:37

It’s even harder as she isn’t getting anywhere in history
Teacher doesn’t seem to care but makes out she cares and it’s the students fault
Dd never gets any good feedback of how to improve it’s always the same old thing
She’s has been asking for help for weeks no care in the world
I’m hoping that this teacher is just a bad marker and things will improve in the exams

LoniceraJaponica · 21/05/2018 21:58

It sounds ike a rubbish school. Thank goodness she is leaving soon.

starfleet · 21/05/2018 22:04

It sounds like she's having all sorts thrown in her way Fantasy. Her health, teachers being unhelpful and the awful girls. I hope she gets through the next few days and the. She can stick two fingers up to the lot of them.

There is a group of not very nice girls at DS's school. He calls them "the bitchy girls" and keeps a wide berth.

UrsulaPandress · 21/05/2018 23:19

Dd has been busy buying stuff for teachers. Cheese. Peroni. Chocolates. Prosecco.

Oh how times have changed.
