Btec course after A levels ... Any Fees?

Ds is in y13 doing A levels. Not sure about uni but found a great college course in a practical subject.
Discussed it with staff on open day and told fee free as still aged 18 on registration in September. Fees apply after age 19.

On a seperate query a member of staff said, no he needs to pay as already has (or will have ) a level 3 qualification in A levels.

I'm waiting for them to contact me as I've raised a query.

But please does anyone know the answer to this? If he has to pay 5k a year for a college course he may as well go to uni.

Thank you!

If he has to pay 5k a year for a college course he may as well go to uni.
If this is a level 3 course then there are likely to be fees - the "extra" years funding is to allow students to complete level 3 (some transfer to colleges after Y12).
But if he has A levels many colleges have higher qualifications e.g. foundation degrees, HNC or HND which are equivalent to the first year/first 2 years of a degree (depending on the course) with much smaller fees than degree courses.
Hope that helps.

Could it be taken as part of an apprenticeship?

Hang on, why does he want to do a level 3 course after A Levels anyway? Is there no Level 4 in the same subject area, perhaps with a foundation year? Iy would be better to level up if possible.

New rules recently come in, something along the lines of you have a l3 in any subject, you won’t be funded for a second l3.

Check out the 19+loans (it might not be called this now) as a possible way of funding it, although I can’t remember the exact requirements of it. but as others have said, he would be better looking for a level 4 equivalent of that course unless the l3 is a direct requirement for work.
