Hopefully this thread will appear on TIO! Grin No need to use it til our old thread is done, but at least we have it for when we are ready.

Thank you Lobster. She was quite pleased with how it went, but disappointed that the result probably won't be high enough for her (until now) first choice of university. We need to book some more open days now that we have more of an idea of what the universities require from her.

Does anyone have any idea of UKCAT minimum requirements for 2018 entry? I have been frantically googling.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 25/08/2017 07:50

Haha, another one with an over invested DM here. DD2 (year 10) got 4 GCSE's yesterday and did brilliantly but my mother posted the actual results on facebook. So cringy. Luckily she hasn't got too many 'friends' and doesn't know how to tag DD Grin
I swear when I did my GCSE's they were pleased but nowhere near as over the top.

LoniceraJaponica · 25/08/2017 20:36

"DD2 (year 10) got 4 GCSE's yesterday"

Well done to your DD, but I thought taking GCSEs in two lots was frowned upon now.

DD took 2 in year 10 and is now finding it is making it more difficult for her to apply to some universities.

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/08/2017 22:39

I've had an update from Reading.

Good news: Queens of the Stone Age are doing a secret bonus set.

Bad news: He isn't impressed with the toilets.

MsAwesomeDragon · 25/08/2017 22:52

Second, I believe the toilets are pretty grim at any festival. Porta loos are never great, and they never have enough of them for the number of people at festivals. I'm glad he's enjoying himself other than that.

UrsulaPandress · 25/08/2017 22:58

DD is struggling with the toilets. Last year she was in the VIP bit.

This year it's a plank over a pit.

I'm expecting a call any time soon to collect her.

The apple doesn't fall far .....,

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/08/2017 23:06

He has some anxiety issues around hygiene and germs, so this will certainly push him outside his comfort zone.

Icouldbeknitting · 26/08/2017 07:29

I have friends who do a lot of festivals, probably three weekends out of four from the spring through to autumn. For years he went on his own (fewer than they do now otherwise they would have divorced). DW went to one after which she set out a few conditions. They bought a camper van - everyone is happy. She gets clean toilets and a shower and he gets to see more of his wife.

RedHelenB · 26/08/2017 07:39

LoniceraJapyonica - is it medicine or dentistry she wants to do?

LoniceraJaponica · 26/08/2017 07:45

Medicine. She does have a back up plan though.

RedHelenB · 26/08/2017 07:52

Sheffield ukcat score for entry was comparatively low for medicine last year if that helps.

LoniceraJaponica · 26/08/2017 10:43

Unfortunately DD can't consider Sheffield as her school did a couple of early entry GCSEs at the end of year 10 and one in January 2011, and Sheffield won't accept any applications from students who didn't sit all of their GCSEs in one sitting.

chocolateworshipper · 26/08/2017 11:31

lonicera that's bonkers! I did one of my O levels (yes, I am that old) early. It was the first time the school had put any students in for an early O level, there were only 3 of of, and it was considered as a positive thing all round.

LoniceraJaponica · 26/08/2017 11:33

I took my O levels in 1975 Grin (and 1976 and 1977)

UrsulaPandress · 26/08/2017 11:44

That's ridiculous! Is that just for medicine or all courses?

LoniceraJaponica · 26/08/2017 11:48

I think it is just for medicine. DD hasn't looked at the other courses. She isn't bothered about Sheffield anyway as it is on our doorstep.

RedHelenB · 26/08/2017 12:52

I'm not sure that is the case because both mine day exams early but that was school policy, all classes did. If that was the case unis won't penalise them. But if she doesn't want to go there anyway fair enough.

RedHelenB · 26/08/2017 12:56

She only needs at least 6 As in one sitting though How many did she take early?

watfordmummy · 26/08/2017 13:16

Signing in, can't believe we've only got a year to go!!Confused

DS1 has been busy this summer, UKCat, work experience, DofE expedition, and a week away with friends. He's also been working on that dammed EPQ, as the first draft has to be in first day of term.

No matter what anyone says, I think they are all far more committed than we were all those years ago (or maybe that's just me!!).

Although I don't want to wish the year away, I will be glad when it's over. Wink

LoniceraJaponica · 26/08/2017 16:12

She didn't get 6 As in one sitting. She got 2 As in year 10, an A in the January of year 11 and 4A an A plus 2 Bs at the end of year 11.

LoniceraJaponica · 26/08/2017 16:13

She didn't know she wanted to do medicine until June this year.

RedHelenB · 26/08/2017 16:58

Oh I see. She might as well look at doing the BMAT and maybe putting one of those down on the UCAS form.

raspberryrippleicecream · 26/08/2017 17:56

Icouldbe I don't blame her with the camper van. DH and DS2 have gone in our folding camper, which has toilet, gas fridge and hot water!

LoniceraJaponica · 26/08/2017 19:43

No, she definitely doesn't want to do the BMAT test. You need to revise for that, and she has spent most of the summer holidays practising for the UKCAT test, which she took yesterday. Loads of universities want the UKCAT test so she isn't going to bother with the BMAT as well.
