Hopefully this thread will appear on TIO! Grin No need to use it til our old thread is done, but at least we have it for when we are ready.

Hang in there all of us.

You can do this knitting, you sound super organised, you are in control, which at least helps mean there won’t be hidden failures in the system. You even have a back up plan.

Well DS thinks he's decided on course and targets to aim for. School are completely focused on Oxbridge and medics (although I don't think there are any this year?), so nothing has happened. I just want it done, before he changes his mind again....

Good luck to those putting in applications...Smile

spababe · 03/10/2017 11:12

Still fine honing the PS here luckily DS has got lots to say! No predicted grades from college though so hope he is applying for the right Unis and we have guessed predicted grades correctly!
However just found out that my 2nd DS has to do a PS for the 6th form school he wants to go to so have to start all over again for him. It's a protracted admissions process for a specialist college.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/10/2017 13:39

It dawned on me this morning that this might be the last
october that dd lives with us. eep.

You had disappeared from TIO again.

Someone posted a fabulous link to a guide to Personal Statements. I've just trawled back through every page and cannot find it. Was it on a previous thread can anyone remember?

HesMyLobster · 03/10/2017 15:45

Is it this one Ursula?

www.studential.com/university/applying/UCAS-application-guide/personal-statement-examples/subjects

Has a few examples for each subject. I definitely remember seeing it on here but not sure if it's the one you mean?

HesMyLobster · 03/10/2017 15:49

Kitten I was saying just that at the weekend - now begins a year of "lasts".
DD was in her favourite dance competition at the weekend and we got a bit emotional when we realised it's the last time she'll ever compete there...

UrsulaPandress · 03/10/2017 17:20

That's it. Thanks Lobster

UrsulaPandress · 03/10/2017 17:21

Had a family party for Dds 18th on Sunday and I cried when doing the toast. I am a renowned blubber though.

Littledrummergirl · 03/10/2017 17:22

I was saying that the other day. My dsis has a baby who has just started to crawl, her ds1 starts school next September and has just started preschools.
We are at the other end with lasts-ds1 has finished with the school bus, Will have his last remembrance day with cadets this year, etc. I get a lump and have to think about something else quickly!

Today he came home and said that his teachers will have his reference ready in the next couple of days, in the same breath he announced that he has locked himself out of UCAS by entering the password incorrectly too many times. Shock
It's ok though apparently as it's not 15th October and he's getting it sorted. I took the opportunity to let him know it will be in before 15th just in case of problems. ConfusedWine

chocolateworshipper · 03/10/2017 18:48

Sorry to derail again, but does anyone understand teenage relationships? DD announced on Sunday that she is "seeing someone" but when I referred to him as her "boyfriend" today, I was told he's not her boyfriend yet, they're just seeing each other. I asked how that works - does one of them say "would you like to see me" rather than "will you go out with me." She said they had been "talking" which then progressed to going on a date and now they are "seeing each other" but that's not the same as being boyfriend and girlfriend.

Confused
OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/10/2017 19:00

Well that’s confusing Chocolate! I have no idea. I shall ask dd for you.

dd was already to press send on her form, she thought she had full college approval. I said I’d go and get my credit card. Apparently they were told specifically that they shouldn’t pay yet.

Well that means they can’t press send then doesn’t it? Argh. Thuds head on table. I’m going to wrestle her laptop off her and press send myself.

How can this be such a drawn out process? It’s a form. Fill it in, send it off, have a cup of tea. That’s how I do forms.

HesMyLobster · 03/10/2017 19:11

Haha chocolate I've had this explained to me several times by my DDs but I still don't get it!
I think it goes:
Talking - you both know you're interested and spend several hours a day snapchatting. Close friends know but it's not public yet. Can last anything from a week to 2+ years apparently, and can be sporadic.
Seeing - it's public knowledge that you're a "thing" and you're likely to attend the same social events but not "together" however there might be some snogging. Usually seems to last a few weeks before either fizzling out, ending in a dramatic bust up about him snapchatting another girl, or moving on to:
Going out - this is where you suddenly become inseparable and spend all your time draped all over each other either in each other's houses (glares at dd2!) or at local Costa/McDonalds/park (delete as applicable) every day after school and all weekend! This is when it becomes acceptable to use the terms boyfriend/girlfriend.

There's also an "On it" stage but I haven't figured out yet where that fits in. Possibly between talking and seeing?

All of this I've learnt from 15 year old dd2 because dd1 has had no interest in the whole thing!

chocolateworshipper · 03/10/2017 19:15

Thanks Lobster - that's very helpful.

Still don't understand why she's already been round to meet his family if they're not "official" yet, but what the heck do I know - I'm old and was obviously never a teenager Hmm

HesMyLobster · 03/10/2017 19:15

Forgot my news!

DD had an email from UCAS this morning confirming school had submitted her application. . .

Then this afternoon had her first offer! Shock

Was not expecting any to be so fast!

She is chuffed I think, but suddenly feels very very real!!

raspberryrippleicecream · 03/10/2017 19:56

Wow Lobster. I think that's our first offer on the thread? Congratulations.

chocolateworshipper · 03/10/2017 20:07

Congratulations Lobster! The first but not the last I'm sure.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/10/2017 20:11

Goodness Lobster! that’s super quick Shock Congratulations to your dd.

OP posts:
MsAwesomeDragon · 03/10/2017 21:10

That is amazingly quick Lobster. Congratulations!!!

Icouldbeknitting · 03/10/2017 21:11

Lobster I'm so pleased, I really am. It feels like a little victory for us all, a taste of what is to come.

Littledrummergirl · 03/10/2017 21:33

Whoop whoop, well done lobsters Dd. Lobster you can sleep now Grin
It's really good to know.

TheSecondOfHerName · 03/10/2017 22:28

Wow! Congratulations to your DD Lobster

UrsulaPandress · 03/10/2017 23:38

Ooh Lobster. How exciting.

HesMyLobster · 03/10/2017 23:59

Thankyou all! We will both sleep better tonight I think!
I hope all the universities are as speedy and all of our dcs have lots of lovely offers very soon!

lashingsofgingerbeer · 04/10/2017 07:37

Wow Lobster congratulations on the offer - that was super fast!

Chocolate I'm still trying to figure teenage relationships out! Like the UCAS form submission, they all seem unnecessarily protracted and complicated. Kitten I'm with you on how to form fill! This is making the passport renewal form look easy - even the bit where you have to hunt down a 'professional' to sign the form & photo!
