We are going to Notts on Friday, then Leicester on Saturday.

UrsulaPandress · 10/09/2017 22:20

We are Nottingham on Friday too. I'm the one with the walking stick and dd is the one with the hair and eyebrows.

LoniceraJaponica · 10/09/2017 22:26

I will look out for you. DD has green hair.

HesMyLobster · 11/09/2017 08:10

DD made it back from D of E in one piece (just!) sounds horrendous - storms, flooding, near permanent rain, whole route was practically a swamp - but she loved it and says she had a wonderful time! Shockmy idea of a nightmare!
She was looking forward to a bit of a lie in this morning as she has no lessons til this afternoon, but she has returned to an email asking her to attend a meeting with the Principal this morning at 9am! No idea why or what it's about Confused (he has never even spoken to her before)
Hoping it's not anything scary!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/09/2017 08:19

That sounds like an awful trip Lobster!

I expect the meeting this morning will be a good thing due to uni applications or something.

Where did she do it Lobster? DD is still out there somewhere in Snowdonia. I haven't heard from her since Friday. The weather here has been horrendous all weekend. I lie awake listening to the rain battering against my windows and think of my poor little girl in a tent up a mountain.

😂

inchyrablue · 11/09/2017 11:14

Oh Lobster and Ursula I came on just to hear how they'd got on! Will your DD be finished later today Lobster? I think DD completed around lunch time. Her boots are still not dry. I suspect she has not been proactive in helping them though.

She hasn't been proactive in anything since she returned, and it led to an almighty row yesterday. She changed one word in her personal statement after her form tutor looked at it and pointed out it was a string of statements with no explanation. I think she was irritated that he had said exactly the same as me. Blimmin teenagers.

UrsulaPandress · 11/09/2017 12:26

DD doesn't finish until tomorrow.

HesMyLobster · 11/09/2017 12:41

DD finished yesterday and arrived home late last night. They were in the Peak District. The main problem they had was overflowing rivers and at one point a burst dam making the route completely inaccessible.
I was the same as you Ursula listening to the rain and worrying! But she says it didn't dampen spirits at all. I think they were all determined to enjoy it as much as possible, knowing it was their last expedition.

Meeting with the Head this morning was just for him to congratulate her on her Year 12 results. All very lovely, but she wishes he could have waited til tomorrow so she could have stayed home this morning!
Still, she's used the rest of the morning to work on cutting down her PS, she thinks it's about there and once it's checked by her tutor tomorrow, she's ready to press the submit button on UCAS! Shock

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/09/2017 13:30

oh goodness Lobster! How scary is that. Do you have a compulsion to rabidly check it all over? Congrats for her congrats though, however inconsiderate the timing Grin

Seems that it's back to normal with a bump. dd has been given 4 pieces of homework today. I hope it's not going to be like this all year.

Funny to hear about DCs dislike of hills. One friend's daughter is turning down unis from her list if they have too many hills. She's chosen Warwick and rejected Durham and Exeter mostly cause of hills.Grin

So glad DD gave up D of E after bronze. Sounds too adventurous!!!!

She's also opted out of dance show this year whilst still continuing classes so rehearsals don't get in way of studying or 18th birthday parties.Wink

DD had her downsized party on Saturday. All enjoyed. We sigh with relief, she wanted 100 in a marquee and decided against a few weeks ago.

LoniceraJaponica · 11/09/2017 19:36

"Funny to hear about DCs dislike of hills"

DD has a genuine health issue and is under the rheumatology team at the hospital. Walking up hills is agony for her, but she is OK on the level.

FantasyAndHope · 11/09/2017 19:40

Dd doesn't mind hills does set the joint pain off in her ankles
Dd is visiting Essex on Saturday she likes been quite close to London which I don't mind she's confident and it'll do her good to explore the south a bit more
Had a phonecall from her school think she's got a serious eating disorder 🤔 She's just fussy
She's started her history coursework she's chosen America As a topic

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/09/2017 19:40

I rejected Bath for the giant hill a billion years ago. When I visited with dd over the summer I realised my judgment was correct.
Unfortunately it's one of her 5. I hope she doesn't expect me to visit! :D

Scary to think that some of our children are already legally adults.

DD won't turn 18 until after the exams. She won't even be allowed to legally drink alcohol at prom.

Her school used to do short fat GCSEs at the end of year 10. I can't believe that she achieved 2 good GCSEs at only 14.

LoniceraJaponica · 11/09/2017 19:49

I just also wanted to say how much I love this thread. It is so friendly, helpful and supportive. Keep up the good work OYBK - and everyone else of course Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/09/2017 19:55

It is a lovely thread Lonicera :) we have ourselves a nice group here. It's lovely to be able to chat about our kids being normal even if they are adults or going to be by the end of the year. Your dd did well with her GCSEs when she was only a babe!

dd knows I post here and sometimes I'll double check that she doesn't mind what I'm saying cos It would feel rude otherwise.

OP posts:
HesMyLobster · 11/09/2017 20:02

Ha! Kitten I check with my dd too before posting stuff about her. Sometimes when I offer her some particularly useful or insightful advice she'll ask if it's from my Mumsnet friends! It usually always is! Wink

I love this group, don't know what I'd do without you all now!

UrsulaPandress · 11/09/2017 20:15

DD is in finally in a bunkhouse tonight. In a bed. With a mattress. And she was drinking a cup of tea when she phoned. The wind was so bad it was ripping tents apart. Only 12k to walk tomorrow.

Picked horse up today so something else to worry about.

It is a lovely thread and I don't care that there is another mum from dds school on here. They are all fab and can be as embarrassed as they want.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/09/2017 20:37

We don't have any DoE people camping tomorrow night do we? Could be gusting to 75mph in exposed spots.

Glad the horse is back Ursula! Hope you aren't too poor now.

Is your DD missing school/college for this trip Ursula?

Icouldbeknitting · 11/09/2017 20:40

I'm glad to hear that she's in a bunkhouse Ursula. When you said you were worried about her in a tent up a mountain my first thought was that she'd be doing well to hang on to the tent in the winds we've been having. I kept my mouth shut as I thought you had quite enough to worry about without me putting ideas in your head.

UrsulaPandress · 11/09/2017 20:43

Not got the bill yet. Although I have the only just found out I have to cover half the stabling fees.
