I'm sure this has been raised before...
I'm fuming that it's going to cost us £800 a year for our 16 year old daughter to get to the nearest 6th form which offers A Levels.
I realise that the government wriggle out of being responsible for transport by saying they have to stay on in education or training, (so she could do an apprenticeship or a vocational qualification), but, she wants to do A Levels.
It just seems so unfair, that people in rural areas are having to stump up, and will probably mean that only children whose families can afford it will be able to do academic study = selective education at 16.
I'm sure lots of children will slip through the net, but hey, it'll make the unemployment figures look good, and if you're in London you can get a free Oyster card if you're aged 16-18, so who cares about the people on low incomes across rest of the country?
Trying to get transport out of the LA is like pulling teeth, they just wash their hands of the kids once they've finished year 11.
