Hi everyone!
I am a mother of 3, my youngest is 17 and Im needing advice about his education. He is in year 13 but only doing 2 A2 levels after he had to drop his 3rd after a poor exam result. He needs to do another A level to get the UCAS point she needs to get into uni, but I cant find a college that will help, I am at the end of my tether. His current college say he cant do the course there and several locals ones wont allow him to enrol, can anyone help?
Thanks in advance

It might be best if he doesn't take up another one at the moment, as he sounds like he didn't cope/ achieve last year.

Is he now in year 13? or year 12? When are you trying to enrol him for another A level, September?

he is entitled to 3 years of sixth form education, so maybe you should be enquiring about whether he will be allowed to stay another year, ( I would guess it would be a full timetable of 3-4 As levels. - he won't be allowed to just take 1)

Alternatively, look at evening classes. An A level without coursework and practical exams should be under £1000.

Did he take the AS for the other subject? I think you may find that there are funding issues starting another level 3 at this stage but could look at private tuition colleges or maybe a vocational course. If he struggled with a 3rd subject is higher education really suitable for him?

can you clarify a bit more.

What did he achieve in year 12?

Is he now in year 13?

What is it he has been told he can't do?

Yes he can get three years of sixth form education. School based sixth form tend not to like repeaters, especially repeaters from colleges. In terms of funding a student on a maximum timetable will attract the full amount. There is no way we would have someone on roll doing one A level.

The best bet would be an evening course A level or an independent crammer sixth form.

What about a course that requires 2 A level entry and go for a degree after that? I don't know if taking 3 years to get the 3 A levels will look so good when applying for university. What subject is he interested in?
