A Levels or Access course

StopCallingMeRichard · 17/02/2015 07:51

I have GCSE's and a shed load of experience and professional qualifications, however lot of employers are now asking for academic qualifications so I'm thinking if doing a degree/further/higher education in a few years time,

Is there anything I could doing now as I work towards this? I could do A levels, or should I be looking at an Access course. From what I understand, an Access course may count towards a degree credit score?

Sorry I don't know much about further education.

Thx

could you do a degree with a foundation year attached?

Access courses are very good preparation for degrees, and are only on year. Not all universities accept them (shame on some of the snottier and misguided RG universities), but most are very happy to consider access applicants. I don't know about them counting as credits towards a degree, I didn't think that they were taught at the right level.

If you do open university you don't need a levels to get on a course

It will depend what degree you want to do. Access courses are probably best but sometimes they are not necessary if your professional qualifications are of a suitable level. What are u thinking of studying?

You may want to check individual university entry requirements. Some access courses do not cover the required element of biology and 'hard sciences' so check with the college.

Access is hard core. It moves quickly. Be prepared to work hard. It is a quicker route for the more mature learner!

Good luck!

Don't do anything now unless you plan going to university in the near future. Having a large gap between the two may mean universities will prefer you to do another access course before you start. Check the university requirements first.
