Hartpury College Advice please

darwiniandreams · 01/09/2014 17:30

My dd is looking to study at Hartpury College for her A Levels to get more involved/experience and training in equine sciences.

The downfall to this would be that she would have to live in due to the distance from home. DD has never lived away so I am a little nervous about it. We are attending the Open Day in a few weeks

Does anybody have any experience good/bad/indifferent of Hartpury or know of anyone that has had.

TIA Flowers

It has a very good reputation and it is an amazing site. My son was offered a place for this year but failed his english (although they have not come back yet about other options).
They do taster weekends/days. Not sure if it one or two nights but is run during the holidays and you have to pay but it may be worth it to see how she gets on. I can't find it on the website but ask at the open day.
Would she be able t come home at weekends

Thankyou ChillySundays

We live a 4 hr drive away or 2 hrs away on train. It would mean her travelling home on her own due to work commitments although dd has her sights firmly set on attending. Tbh i don't think she has thought about the practicalities due to her wearing blinkers Grin.

I am keen for her to go as her involvement and commitment to her work at the stables and her genuine love of the horses makes me believe she would do well. Smile

I live very nearby and lots of friends children, children's friends go there. It's fantastic for equine interests lots of opportunities.
One friend of mine used to have students stay with her so maybe your daughter would prefer to board with a local family if she's a bit nervous at leaving home. You'll be very very impressed when you visit. Best of luck.

DD has a couple of friends there, both from a fair distance away. They are both having a great time (just gone into second year on equine studies course). Only complaints are that the 16 year olds have very limited self-catering facilities and that the turnout is limited (if taking your own equine companion!)
