Hi could someone give me some advice about fostering a family member that has already been taken into care?
So the child in question was taken away a few years ago and has been back and forth with his mother a few times.(we have had no contact with them for quite a few years for various reasons) Now it's looking unlikely he is going back and we would like to offer him a permanent home with us for as long as he needs.
He has health problems but we are aware and used to his condition as BIL also has the same condition and we are close to him and my MIL for advice. We also have three children of our own 9, 7 and 2.5, would this effect our chances (we have the room would just have to update our car for a bigger one)
Do we need SIL permission to have him or just SS?
Would we have to go through the whole fostering process or just special guardianship?
Any advice welcomed

The Local Authority will much prefer an SGO arrangement as it is far cheaper for them. You need to negotiate hard with them to get as much money from them as possible. Its a bluffing game. They will say that they cant pay anything to you and unless you agree the kids will probably end up in a childrens home but its just a bluff. Bear in mind a childrens home would cost them 5k per week per child.
