Hi, me and my boyfriend are looking into gaining kingship of a 2 year old. However we are only 17 and 19. Would this be an issue? we both have experience with children. My boyfriend has an enhanced DBS and i will be getting mine when starting up college again in september. Also does anyone have any advice? Thank you!

It's usually 21 for fostering- I'd presume it is similar for kinship caring as you are still fostering initially. Even if they lower this to 18, I'm pretty sure you would both need to be 18+. Lovely that you want to do this for your relative though.

I wasn’t allowed to do this for my little sister at 18. I had a full time job and a rented house, but social services wanted someone 21 or above. I was single; but I don’t think that played a part. She was a little older and wanted to come live with me, and the foster family who had her temporarily supported my application.

This was over a decade ago, so it’s possible things have changed - but prepare yourself just incase Flowers
