Hi there!

Is there anyone that would be able to tell me if I can foster without having a car please?

Many thanks

You can foster without a car but you are expected to take the child to school and contact.
Our child’s school was 16 miles away as was the contact centre so it would have been impossible without a car.

Our neighbours foster children and they get picked up and dropped home every day by someone from local authority

In theory, yes Pat. It depends how you normally get about. You'll need to take the dc to contact, school, medicals, meetings... so you'll need to live somewhere with a good transport network to manage without a car.

Thank you all for the reply’s x
In a nutshell my husband and I are going through the stages of fostering (very early stages) our next step is a call from a assessor! I have a clean driving licence but have not had a car for some time, the reason being we live on top of a train station and feel no need for a car but at the same time fully understand the need to get to meetings etc etc... I was told I would be expected to get a car... which I may well do but I couldn’t say 100% that I would. Am I wasting their time? Any advise would be greatly appreciated x

They want you to have the flexibility they need. I don't think you'll like fostering if you get stuck at something like this. It's hugely inconvenient, there are a lot of people telling you what to do, you need to be really flexible.
Being so closely enmeshed with Social services, having them commenting on all aspects of your life... is that what you want?

I know a couple of carers who’s children get picked up but there are reasons why.
To be fair they may have special circumstances that the carers should not be sharing with neighbours.
