Hi everyone, ive finished my form F and have got a panel date due in dec, i will be a single carer with just one, my youngest child left living with me, (hes 20 and has aspergers) is there any tips/advice? i'm nervous about panel and really nervous about having my first placement, i'm being approved for 0-18 yrs although under 1 years tend to go in the foster to adopt scheme with our local authority, i don't yet have anything child related in the house, i do have a car seat and a bed guard/rail but nothing else as i'm starting from scratch. any tips on what to have ready, just in case, thank you {smile}

dont be nervous about panel. Usually just a formality. Get some comfort food in the freezer. Dont be afraid to say no to a placement. Take a child who will fit in with your life, you will do a much better job if this is the case.

Just wanted to say Hi, we are also hoping to go to panel in December but still got another two visits booked in so we will wait and see what happens.
We have three teenagers so hoping to foster a child 0-5 short term to start with, but I have nothing yet in the house and don't want to rush out and buy baby equipment as we may end up with a 4 year old!

I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts - it makes me feel a little bit more prepared in what to expect Smile

Hi.

The amount of people in panel can be very daunting however only one person will ask you questions. Your assessing SW is there to support you if you get stuck. Put as much detail in your form F so you don’t get as many questions.

Questions we got were pretty basic think there was 5 questions all together . Our first review panel was much harder than the first in our experience .
Don’t feel the pressure to say yes to the first phone call you get, go with your gut and know your limits .
Good luck xx

Hey all, my partner and I went to panel on October 28th and we got approved. We are still waiting for the social worker to get in touch. Would anyone know how long this takes?. It's really nice to read all of these comments and all you guys going through the process, good luck 😁

Congratulations! I should imagine you probably have your first young person living with you by now as more and more children come into care around Christmas. Hope things are going well

Panel is this Thursday, nail biting times, the manager of the agency visited to introduce herself as she lives locally and thinks I'm perfect for a teenager they have a file on so fingers crossed.
