Hi there,
I am very new to mumsnet. I just wondered if any of you lovely people could possibly help and advise? Me and my husband within the year are both looking to apply to become foster carers, however, I have a DMP dating back to 2008, well before i met my husband. I just wondered if any one on this forum has had any problems in the fostering process/application regarding the finanicial checks as I am worried that we may be declined due to having a DMP? Is there anyone out there that can tell me if they have been through this themselves? thank you so much x

What is a DMp ? They check your present finances to make sure you could manage between placements (think this is more re stress
Levels).

I can't recall anyone checking into the past.

We've just been approved as FC. The only financial info we had to give was an authority to contact our mortgage company to show we're not in arrears, and then an income/outgoing list to show we could meet our commitments without relying on any income from fostering allowance. This was just on a form, not by bank statements.

It shouldn't do. I am currently on an IVA and have 18mths left on it. I was honest from the start and the LA said as long as we could show that manage our finances now it wouldn't be a problem.

We discussed it in more detail during the Form F process as to reasons why it came about (old business debt) etc and how I dealt with the stress over it.

I go to Panel at the end of February with their recommendation of approval so it certainly can be overcome. Fingers crossed it all goes ok.
