Clothes sent from home !

So this is only our second placement and we have a lovely 9yr old living with us for almost 2 weeks now. Everything is going fine and we have bought clothes & other essentials as child arrived in school uniform. Parents have now decided to send clothes and they smell. I would not allow the child to wear them as they're definitely not clean BUT how to I get around the washing of them ? I don't want to make a fuss as I know it could cause upset but I really don't want the smelly clothes in the wardrobe & drawers next to clean clothes I've washed & ironed !

are they items that can be washed? the just wash them. surely that should get rid of the unpleasant smell?

er wash them. I am sure the little girl will be happy to see some of her own things.

Could you just say to her "we'll give them a little freshen up then you can choose what you want to wear"? She may be aware her clothes smell and be happy?

I would just wash them. Don't make a fuss or mention that they smell to the young girl, just fire them in the wash.

Just wash them. She needs you to guide her I would imagine and smelly clothes are not on.

Child is very sensitive and was upset after contact today so didn't want to just chuck them in the wash as he rather proudly took each item out the bag and told me what it was !

Can you allow him to wear and get muddy or dirty quick and then wash gradually? Ie take to park and get muddy, home and suggest change and you can wash so he can rewear again. Or do baking and get too much flour on an item and wash

The getting muddy idea is a good one. Perhaps pop socks and pants through the wash and let everything else get naturally messy

They're going in the wash now . . . My lovely pooches have had their heads in the bag and slobbered on them ! Extra bit of turkey for them on Sunday! Lol

Do they smoke I always stare we don't smoke in this house do we so it's a new smell So is it ok if I wash them so it smells like us.

Kids are always fine with that.
