Hi, at the moment I am not in a position to foster (no spare bedroom and just getting a 'career' underway) but I would love to do in the future, if I have the space that is.

BUT, I had ss involved with my own children a couple.of years ago, basically because of the state of my house Blush This is all sorted now, and my children were never removed from my care,.I was never deemed to be a risk etc etc.

I was talking to a 'friend' recently, and she said there's no way I would ever be considered as a result, but then she also thinks you can foster with out a spare bedroom, so I'm.not convinced she knows what she's talking about.

Thanks :)

Hi,
You can't foster without a spare room. I'd say at least give it a go when you're ready. The assessment process is in depth, so if you get through the initial stage, your assessor will go through all of your past issues with you and discuss them.
Good luck!

I don't think that would automatically rule you out - my sister fosters and she had some problems years ago.

Social services will want to talk about how those issues developed, how you've resolved them, how you make sure they won't arise again, and how you would deal with it if problems started up. Basically they want to check your insight into the issue, and that it won't affect future foster children.

I think fostering is a great thing to do, once you have a spare room you should go for it.

Thanks. :)
Realistically I'm looking at 5 years minimum, but its fab to know I may still be considered.
