Preparing for placement

Hi,

DP and I have been accepted and now waiting for the important call.. We already have the furniture, bedding etc sorted.
I am wondering what about toys and games? Our age range is quite wide - 0 to 10 so it's hard to figure out what sort of toys to buy.. What did you do when waiting for the first placement? Did you buy some toys upfront? All I'm thinking is that we wouldn't want Fc to feel like they're coming to an empty room the first day.. Obviously when we know who is coming to live with us, we will buy specific to age and gender toys and hopefully we will know what are their favourites, but what about now?
To buy or not to buy? ;)

I'd say pick up a few bits and bobs, colouring stuff, books, play dough etc and some games you could play together! But then id leave the rest until you know who your getting. As time goes on you'll end up building up a collection. We started with nothing but a year in and with donations from people who know us and things we have bought we now have a sizeable amount! :-) good luck!

We have so much stuff after 8 months...! Kids sometimes come with some toys, but you soon manage to accumulate.

Buy some classic stuff: SOme matchbox toy cars (about 10) and some puzzles, some lego/duplo, at least one baby doll and a pushchair in neutral colour - then you have covered your bases and there is something there to play with. Once the child(ren) arrive, you will be able to get more toys - you usually get a couple of hours notice, long enough to get to tesco and grab a couple of things.

Thank you for replies, that's what I was thinking, I wouldn't want a child to come here and feel like there's nothing for them to take their mind off of the new scary environment! :)

The works is a great place to buy books as well. They are doing 10 books for £10 at the moment as well :)
