Waiting for the official decision after panel recommendation...

Hi all, my DP and I were accepted to foster on Wed 18th December, we are yet to receive the official decision from decision maker, how long does it normally take? Also, can we still get turned down even after acceptance from the panel? We are with IFA - not sure if this makes any difference?
We're over the moon and making it official would just be the perfect Christmas present.

COngratulations!

Ours took a couple of weeks to come through - although we were told that if there was an emergency placement, the paperwork would be rushed through.

Thanks! So excited! :)
I see, it can take longer then, we were told it should be matter of few days, I am going to give up my job to foster, that's why I'm wondering what's the best course of action, staying put for the time being.
Our SSW said she's call us as soon as the info comes through..

Many authorities will be closing for Christmas, or rather, many of the staff will be taking time out next week.

That's true, we'll just need to wait and carry on getting all bits and bobs in the meantime! Thanks!

I went to panel mid December last year and going out early jan that the decision maker would not approve me. I finally got approved in June this year after an independent appeal. I was so close to handing my notice in at work after panel but its a good job I didn't.

I always hear that once going to panel its very rare not to be approved... and that once approved by the panel is almost impossible for the final decision maker not to approve. But i am still nervous (soon going to panel). Hbr1989 can you please give some idea of why the final decision maker went against the panel decision if that is not too confidential please?

I was wondering the same, hbr - can you tell on here what reason did they give you for turning you down? Was it LA or IFA?
Chloe, I've heard the same..
The panel meeting is not as bad as it seems to be, the most important thing is to be yourself and show your passion for fostering. The chat during meeting is meant to show you thought things through and that you have a good idea of what it involves and means to you and your family. I am sure at this stage you and family have been through your options many times, so smile and be positive :)
I am wondering about the decision because DP and myself don't have much experience with children (other than family & friends), but we all have to start somewhere ;)

I foster for LA. I was initially not approved because of my age (early 20s) despite me evidencing my skills and experience. In my opinion it was discrimination. She was eventually backed into a corner and had to approve me after my appeal.
