Very interesting reading, maypole. Thank you!
Some sensible stuff in there, as well as some shocking statistics.

Loved the initial message inside the article. Thanks for sharing maypole. I skimmed most of it and will go back and read the rest very soon. Got the statistics though.... Very very frightening.

I was saying to oh giving a yearly wage would be much better

Then councils are less likey to put foster carers on hold if they don't like what they are saying as you would get paid the same weat her you had one placement in the year or were full all year round

In our la if you are a short or long term carer you get paid whether you have a placement or not.
I know of someone who hasn't had a placement for 7 months but has been paid, another for 3 months! Yet there is a shortgage of foster carers.

Lots of interesting stuff in there, thanks Maypole. I really, really wish we were salaried. It would make lots of things easier - tax, pensions, mortgages, sick pay... would we even be entitled to a Union then?? I also strongly agree that pay should be much more widely publicised and equalised. It's ridiculous that I earn £200 per week, per child, less than someone fostering for a neighbouring LA.

Very interesting Maypole and is a nice tribute to all you hard working foster carers out there. Scarlet I tried for years when I was employed as a tm mgr for a shire county LA for a salaried system (which I believe is the only fair way forward) but I was always told by senior managers "we can't afford it" and that was 7 years ago, so it is probably true that it cannot be afforded now with these viscous cuts.

Someone (who is a good mathematician) - not me! should be able to work out how much money is paid to IFAs over a 12 month period and balance that against how much is saved by "in house" placements and it could be proved that salaried foster carers could be afforded. Also agree that there should be uniformity of payments for all carers on a national basis.
