dh & i have been talking about foster care on/off for some time now..

dh is a social worker, i am an occupational therapist and we have a ds (16) and a dd (nearly 10)

i have finally 'taken the plunge' and sent an initial enquiry to our local LA. i know it is only an enquiry but it suddenly feels like such a huge step! we are also currently in the process of having a large extension built on our home to accomodate dh's elderly parents in a 'granny annexe' style building so i am a bit worried that LA will write us off as being crazy! (which we are a bit, but in a good way Grin)

any advice? anything you wish you had known/been prepared for at this stage?

thanks in advance

i think having a large extend family is just want most of these children need

my lo wasn't aware want a grandmother was until they stayed with us lo kept repeating granny over and over agin because they have never heard the word.

grand parents can lend a whole wealth of parenting experince and probably will make back up carers.

well done for taking the first step

Good luck, and I second maypole. Having the family close will be a huge benefit.

Will be interesting for your dh to see life from the other side as well.

dh works in alcohol rehab, he has quite a poor view of social workers in general.. so yes, it could be quite interesting!

my own parents live just around the corner and are very supportive

thanks for the encouragement Smile
