Sounds exciting! How old are your boys? I would love to do it but DS has ASD and is only 4 so I dunno if we'd be allowed.

13&10give your local authority a ring and ask, you'd be more experienced with asd than I am,and during our course we met lots of foster carers who's children were much younger than ours.

Ah bless.. its all so exciting... best of luck.. we've got our first 2 and had them for 4 months so far... a rollercoaster of emotions but wouldn't change a thing!!! Grin

Good luck, something I'd love to do in the future. As a teacher I see what an amazing affect a good foster placement has on looked after children. Is a brilliant thing.

SquidgyBrain · 13/01/2011 21:33

OOOH how exciting!!

I am very new to fostering too - we have had our LO now for 8 weeks and it is looking likely although he is going to be going home, that is still a while away.

Envious of those tiny baby snuggles!! enjoy and be sure to let us know how you are getting on :)

congratulations :)

(and how lovely of your youngest buying a rattle!)

@nappy addict
my son has asd and we are fostering....they would ask you many questions but look into it.

as long as his asd is manageable it should be fine.
ggod luck.

conratualtions on your first placement...it is a very very exciting time.
i remember when i got the call for my first placement i was jumping up and down whooping hahahaha.
its a magical time and this is when you learn what its all about.
its like driving, you dont really start learning until you have passed your test.
enjoy it, be strong, be confident and you will be fine.
oh and be firm with things. if there are things you are not prepared to do in a placement make sure they know. they will try to use and abuse a new carer!

Thanks all, while I have a few minutes thought I would nip back in and update-well Lo has been with us a week now,and boy has the week flown by!
Lo is an absolute star, only makes a noise if hungry, got belly ache(suffers with terrible wind, and won't let go).
Have met so many new faces this week,I will never remember them all.Don't think I have ever had a diary so full this early in the year.Still a learning curve but so far really enjoying my new role, despite the early starts and almost constant sick down my shoulder! :o

Lovely to read your update-thank you for taking the time to post.

Good luck-although you sound as though you don't need it :)

chocaholic2011 · 23/01/2011 14:28

Thanks for update killermouse

Its great to hear about first placements especially as we are waiting for ours after a false alarm last week.
