Super quick one as am on my way out but DH emailed earlier to say that immediately following a 6 month deployment he will go on a 6 month tour to a fairly pleasant family friendly place. Am I right in thinking that if the tour is under a year or so it is NOT accompanied?

if this is correct is there generally any objection to us going anyway as long as we (me and the kids) sort it out privately?

Thanks so much, I'll be back to elaborate/answer questions later.

Sorry no idea, but DH has just done 8 months in a hot middle eastern place (not Afgan/Iraq) and it was not an option for us to go. I went for a long weekend and it was lovely mind you.

I imagine that if we have chosen to go under our own steam it would have been v expensive and also, DH has been working 6.4 days a week, so pretty pointless.

Normally a year to get the allowances. You might be allowed SFA for a shorter one but would not get the removals etc.

Is to USA if that helps. Will be back shortly to explain

IIRC, it has to be for over a year before you would get any entitlement to housing/moving expenses etc.

Hi,

The situation is that DH left in June and was due back in Nov; he has now been told he will be relieved in oct, given 5 days in the UK and then fly out to the US to do a 6 month job there, returning in early May.

This means that he'll be away from home for a year and we'll only see him if we fly back and forth for leave etc. So I think it would be better for us all, especially the DS's if we went too but was wondering if there might be any concessions or help and advice available seeing as he'll have been abroad for such a long time in total.

I've phoned the Naval adviceline or whatever it's called so am waiting to hear back.

You won't be moved, it'll be unaccompanied.

Hi Kevin,
I know I won't be moved and I know it is not accompanied - I just want to know if we can pay extra for a SFA rather than the singlies accom that DH would get and whether we can pay extra to be added to the health insurance.

Obvs. as a private citizen I can go for 2x 3 month holidays with my own travel insurance and sort my own accomadation etc but I would prefer a SFA and don't think its out of sight to ask if we can pay extra considering that DH will be out of the country for 11 months and we wont see him otherwise.

As it happens I chatted to a friend whose DH's oppo was able to sort something out so hopefully its all good now.
