Allowances - 12 months det

Hi,
We seem to be going around in circles with this and wondered if anyone here has any experience of a 12 month det and what the allowances are? I've told conflicting things as has OH, and no-one in his PSF knows despite having been 'looking into it' for a few weeks. As OH has now gone and we are none the wiser I thought I'd try to find out for myself so would be grateful for any help if anyone has been through/is going through similar. Thanks.

Get you home for instance? LOA if abroad?

penguin73 · 04/04/2010 21:34

The warrants we are entitled to and his R&R entitlement; GYH and LOA don't apply to dets.

Your other half should ask his PSF what JSP 752 says about his situation. He can also look it up if he has access to the intranet.

Where is the tour? Is it operational? Each deployment usually has a mounting instruction that lays all this info out for the unit and the person deploying.

I imagine he is entitled to LSA for the duration and, if it is operational, you should get Concessionary Families Travel. The rest really depends on the circumstances of the tour.

Thanks, unfortunately the JSP doesn't cover 12 month operational tours and is in the process of being updated. Nothing covered in instructions etc - all the normal channels seem to have been exhausted hence why I am tring to find someone in the same situation who may have already been able to clarify things.

Thanks anyway.

Are you sure? The latest version of the JSP is being released this week and is updated on a monthly basis, in between these updates Directed Letters are issued so that they can implement the policy straight away. It already gives guidance on extended tours, eg how many periods of R&R, how many journeys for families depending on how many months away, etc. The only new policy to be incorporated recently is that relating to the 100 or so Campaign Continuity Posts on Telic and Herrick and the info is most certainly out there.

Has your other half checked into the admin office in theatre? They will be able to guide him I'm sure.

Anyway, I'm a serving admin officer (different service) but as the rules are tri-service I can give you a steer. I'm back in work tomorrow and will find the references for you. Which op is it and I'll dig out the J1 instruction.

Positive, was in PSF Thursday and still there were no answers despite checking the latest revised JSP and there are no relevant instructions/orders yet published as is a newly created post and v short notice. Admin office in theatre also 'looking into it' as they are not yet any the wiser! Can't reveal any op details here but thanks anyway.

No problem.

I am still a bit surprised by the lack of info they can give you and think that there may be a communications problem. I say this because my current job is in pay and allowances policy formulation and its delivery - extended tours and the principles behind their associated allowances are not a new thing, even if your DH's post has been created recently. The policy exists as we have many people it affects and, in short, the HR staff need to start asking the right people the right questions.
