2% pay rise?

scaryteacher · 12/03/2010 12:07

The 2010 AFDPRB report has been published, and is recommending 2% for all those up to and including 1*. Rent for MQs is also going up as is the amount charged for garages etc.

Do you think the Govt will accept this or not?

Apparently this is the "accepted" version (it doesn't get published until the govt agree to it, IIRC), and it comes into effect from next month.

It's out on the OME website, and dh emailed it to me yesterday, and he was emailed it via the normal SHAPE channels.

2% is better than the pay cut the Irish Forces have had to take.

Definitely! We were bracing ourselves for no payrise (and quite happy with that, given the state of things) so the extra money is a bonus.

madwomanintheattic · 12/03/2010 19:24

they have.

but i'm curious what pay rise higher ranks have got - and why it's not been published.

Drusilla · 12/03/2010 21:20

I think the most senior ranks are subject to a pay freeze? [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8559190.stm see here]]

Drusilla · 12/03/2010 21:20

here!

scaryteacher · 12/03/2010 22:39

I'd like to see how they define 'front-line military' for a pay freeze next year. Do they apply it on a retrospective basis? How do they work it out?

I think the MQ rents are increasing by 1.8% as well.

I caught the tail end of the news on BFBS Radio and am sure they said 2% pay rise but a 1.8% rent increase.

Still I suppose a 0.2% payrise is better than nothing at all, which is what I had kind of assumed may happen.

Gordon giveth and Gordon taketh away....

and now he's even targeting the Cocktail parties!

It doesn't equate to a 0.2% pay rise as 1.8% of your quarter charge is not equivalent to 1.8% of your wage.

ie: Your husband earns (for the sake of clarity) £12,000 per annum before tax - £1,000 per month. Out of that wage, he pays £300 per month in quarter charges - £3,600 per annum.

If wages go up by 2%, his wage will be £12,240 per annum - £1020 per month before tax.

If quarter charges go up by 1.8% then he will be paying £306 per month - £3672 per annum.

Therefore, total pay rise over the year = £240
and total quarter charge rise over the year = £72. So you gain by £168 which is a 1.4% pay rise overall on the basic pay of £12,000 per year.

Clear as mud, eh?

Well it was a Sunday evening when I posted that!
