Defence estates - will I have a leg to stand on?

Our entire estate is being reonvated. Everyone has to move out into a refurbished mQ, and will not be moving back into the house they ahve vacated.

We are moving in 4 weeks due to posting

At a meeting to discuss the refurbs everyone was told that all tehy eneded to do was wipe down surfaces and clean cooker - whole house getting gutted.

However, 4 people who moved out due to posting before Christmas had to do full march out clean, and a woman I know in the next sreet who moves out in 2weeks due to posting has also been told she has to do full march out clean - even though the carpets are getting lifted and the paper taken off the walls and the kitchen gutted.

I think this is wrong, and is DE taking the piss, they are doing this IMO so they can find faults and then charge people - after all they won't can charge the people who move out due to refurb for stained carpets will the.

I want to be ready with something to say when they come to do pre-march out next week!Am I going to have any comeback over this?

It happened here as well Saltire, we moved in here (refubed quarter) a year ago today.

The people that lived next door to the quarter we moved out of, were posted out 22nd december, they had to do a full march out, while we just walked out and accross the road.

Sounds like DE are being very unreasonable! What a waste of time, effort and money.

Mind you, I have have never found them to be reasonable.

Another bit of red tape/hoops to jump through, and Yes, it does sound like they're looking for excuses to charge people but I can't see you having any comeback for it - if anything is said at pre-march out get it in writing otherwise someone will change their mind....

But how can they do that - the house is being virtually demolished - new carpets, kitchen heating painted throughout, bathroom, and curtains.

and new doors and skirting boards, and new boilers.

Try ringing and asking (and if you get a positive answer then note time, date and person you spoke to and follow it up with confirmation email!). You might be lucky!

Well they came round, and guess what - we ahve to do full march out clean because "someone will be allocated this house" - even though they start work in 4 weeks.
Also, since when have they stopped sending letters which contain details of what was discussed at march out? Every single pre-march out I've had previously we have been sent a letter saying what was discussed,a dn this letter was referred to at the actual march out so that neither party could say "oh well you said to leave this that or the other".
And, despite the fact that the bins haven't been emptied, and ont eh week we move they will be emptied on the Friday (we move Tuesday) we ahve to take all teh rubbish from both bins in our car to the tip, clean out the bins and lock them in garage "otherwise we will charge you"

What was the quarter like when you moved in? Anything that wasn't clean for your move in, I would point out and (unless they sent someone back in to clean it for you) tell them that you'll be leaving it in the state you received it in.
If they're creating any dust from the renovations (extremely likely), then I would say in no uncertain terms that you will clean the bathroom, cooker etc but will not be wiping anything else as it is going to be covered in dust.
As for the carpets, we were once charged for one stain on a carpet that was to pulled up (only we found that out after they'd taken the cheque). DH went mad and complained and they ripped up the cheque. DE are useless - I personally think it should be managed by the wives instead of semi-retired grumpy blokes who make it as complicated as it possibly can be! Then we'd all be happy!
