I know nothing useful except find the Hive which I'm sure you've already done, but just wanted to say I'm very jealous. So handy for York which I love!
Enjoy!

monkeypinkmonkey · 29/09/2009 15:42

Only lived near there not on base. Nearest large town is Boroughbridge in one direction or York in the other. Only about 20 min drive from york, for scouts etc prob easingwold which is only about 10 min drive. Linton itself has a pub and post office.
Like Yorky I am too very jealous!!!

VanillaPumpkin · 29/09/2009 15:52

Oh I was there. I loved it.
It is a tiny village. The camp is the main part. Lovely walks about.
We had quarters in Linton Meadows which were great, semi det, good size and garage and nice enough gardens some with views over fields etc. All 3 beds and off camp, but easy walk onto camp. The quarters on camp are newer but smaller iirc. I wouldn't want one of those.
Newton-on-Ouse has a pub with good food The Blackie that also did take away pizza (though this was 6.5 years ago so things might have changed.)
York is just fantastic for shopping, sight seeing and eating out.
Easingwold is v cute small market town and has a good indian.
There was a primary school in the village but I don't know if it has survived.
Easingwold has the secondary school and there are various village schools about for primary. I have a friend who teaches at Shipton by Beningborough primary.

We loved it there. It is a very well kept RAF secret imo.

Saltire · 29/09/2009 16:17

Oh don't know if we are going yet - Its complicated which stressing me out big time.

What about secondary schools, I take it if it's a village there is no secondary school, so where is the nearest and how do the DCs get there?

VanillaPumpkin · 29/09/2009 16:23

Nearest would be Easingwold and there is a bus I believe, but you would need to check.

VanillaPumpkin · 29/09/2009 16:23

I only had a baby when I was there.

Yorky · 30/09/2009 09:31

Hi VP, long time no see, how is life treating you?
I think I fancy Linton next now, DH wants MOB though

VanillaPumpkin · 30/09/2009 09:37

Hi Yorky
I have started my PGCE at Uni so I am ridiculously busy with that. All exciting though .
When would you be off?
Am I being dense? Where is MOB??
Will think on it (and ask Dh when he wakes up from nights)....

We want Honington, but I also like it here tbh, but I know we can't stay here forever...

McDreamy · 30/09/2009 14:01

I lived at Linton on camp for 3 years - it's lovely there I'm soooooooooooooooo jealous

notyummy · 30/09/2009 14:04

MOB = Main Office Building (Whitehall)

I think....

We have friends at Linton and they are very happy - although he finds being on a training unit very strange and I think will aim to get back to a front line unit soon.

In terms of quality life etc they are happy - although kids are primary age so I can't help on the secondary front.

Saltire · 30/09/2009 16:14

Anyone else got any info about MQs,schools etc.
Don't know if we are going yet - very very long story, which is contributing big time to my stress

McDreamy · 30/09/2009 17:06

Married quarters were lovely but it does depend where you are. There are quarters on and just off the camp. There is a primary school in the village, think secondary is in Easingwold.

I found the area very friendly. TBH Saltire my DD was only 6 months when we arrived so we didn't really do brownies/cubs kind of things. More mums and tots!

The camp is small but friendly. There is a post office in the village. Easingwold and Boroughbridge are both very nice little towns.

Sorry not much help

Yorky · 30/09/2009 19:42

MOB in this case Main Operating Base - somewhere big and busy. Really wouldn't fancy Whitehall, although he might - don't know if he could get posted there

Good luck with the uncertainty and the stress saltire

VanillaPumpkin · 30/09/2009 20:12

A-ha, I see.

Linton is lovely Salty. All quarters good. We didn't have any children (well dd born in York) and were in a 3 bed semi.
Beautiful part of the world.
Do you drive? You would want to drive I think...

Saltire · 19/11/2009 16:15

How close (walking distance) is the primary school from teh mQs?

OP posts:
Mcdreamy · 19/11/2009 16:16

Would say about a 15 minute walk? Maybe 10 minute brisk walk, it's at the top of the village, camp is in the middle.

Saltire · 19/11/2009 16:30

OK thnaks, have been looking at it on google maps, I need to be in reasonable wlaking distance!
Have got a definate date for going now -Feb 2010

OP posts:
Mcdreamy · 19/11/2009 16:32

I am have you got an address?

ABetaDad · 19/11/2009 20:40

Saltire - I just came across this thread by accident. As a child, I used to live on a farm about 2 miles away from Linton on Ouse as the jet flies.

You would be in the nicest part of Yorksire in the so called Golden Triangle.

Boroughbridge the is the nearest small town. York the nearest city which is great. Easingwold nearest secondary school and has a good reputation slightly above the national average on most criteria.

Lovely countryside round about. If your DH/DP gets the posting you will not want to leave.

Mcdreamy · 19/11/2009 20:43

Tis lovely - I was gutted to leave, the only sweetner was we were off to Cyprus. Would go back quick as a flash but sadly not likely to happen . Fantastic area for foodie pubs too
