Heres a good one am sure.

DH is looking to join in sept (as am sure some of you have already read lol) and currently we have 2 policies. One for 100k for the mortgage and one for 400k to cover bringing up our daughter to age 21 (mostly this is if both of us dies so mum can bring her up and the house can be kept as an investment for her)

Anyway, they cost us about £34 in total a month. Any idea what the cost of life insurance is when in the forces? Is there a dispensation like "if they die while on tour there is no payout"? I cant seem to find an online quotes option so I can see what an increase would be. (I expect it would increase) I could posibly drop the 400k but currently thats actually the cheaper policy! lol.

Do we need holiday insurance (apart from the bog standard type)? As 'Refund of Nugatory holiday expenses' covers cancelled holidays (up to a certain value) due to short notice deployments?

We've never bothered (apart from when we booked an expensive trip to Kenya and it was a standard holiday insurance package) as we were normally flying last minute on a deal somewhere. I think some policies have an Armed Forces exemption on the grounds that short notice deployments are part of the job but I'm not an expert. :D

I'd only take out insurance against cancellation if we were planning far in advance for an expensive trip.

We have whole of life cover for life insurance which pays out on the first death; doesn't matter what you do, you're going to die of something anyway.

Contents insurance is through a firm called JAG Insurance Brokers who do a Forces Plan which includes kit cover. It costs me £58 per month and covers £75,000 worth of contents, which is what I was covered for in the UK. The policy seems pretty good. I also insure my UK property through them, as they came up with a much better quote than Letsure when it was up for renewal. They saved me £400 last year.

We also have a travel insurance policy that covers the three of us for £148 per year. I'll see who does that one for us if people want to know. It's one aimed at HM Forces as well.
