AM i correct in thinking it's Modern Housing Solutions job to fix carbon monoxide detector

if they fitted it in the first place, yes. i imagine so.
if you or a previous occupant fitted it, no.

are they standard where you are for some reason? we haven't got one...

All the MQs have them, i got told that "you can buy them in shops" I said yes I know I could but since it has a "date checked" sticker on it, done when the gas inspection is done, I assume it's their job to replace it!

is there a specific reason that all your q's have them? known issue with fumes and position of vents etc?

i think you just got a donkey on the helpline that didn't check your address properly.

ours don't - we had some sort of alrm thingy in glasgow for 'natural gas' as we the q's were on a brownfield site - we had a different number to ring for those though, as a separate company were responsible as specialists.... i can't imagine mhs get many calls about them...

if they are provided, then they should fix/ replace... if they have now changed the reason why they were provided (ie moved vents/ changed ventilation in some way, then they might not bother as there is no longer a need...

We have one - I assume that it is their responsibilty.

unlike the burglar alarm...but that is another story!

Well I rang them back and they said "Oh we don't supply them"
I said "Well I'm not buying one, what am I supposed to dow ith it"
She said "well you could put it in teh bin but if it's our proerty then you will be charged for a new one when you move".

You couldn't make this up really could you.
Anyway, I asked to speak to a mananger "what for" she said!. To cut a long sotry short, the manager has authorised a new one, ont ehg rounds that it was in the Q when we moved in and it gets checked every year as part of the gas service

madwoman - I don't know why we have them, it's in the kitchen diner, which is where the boiler is. Actually it could be because the boiler is so old and crap. We also have a vent in the dining room end of the room, which blows a gale round your feet even in summer

All our quarters had them and it was the responsibility of DHE/MHS to maintain them.

MHS = waste of space and one of the reasons we now own our own home.

ah well, at least you got there in the end...

We got a new one off them as ours went off at silly o clock in the morning. Cue evacuation from house, knowcking at neighnours door, waiting for transco then MHS..it turned out to be a faulty alarm. They replace d it as it was faulty and was fitted by them in the first place. I thought all MQ had them and most rented. Even in your own home you shold have one in case boiler packs up. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer, will kill you before you know it is there, remember that family who's little ones died whilst on holiday because if it.

hiya, I think that its policy that all MQ's with a Gas supply should be fitted with them. My Previous quarter in london had none and when ours was alarming in the middle of the night they sent someone out with a carbon monoxide detector to check the whole house and a new box for the wall within about half an hour of me calling them.
The Quarter I am in now doesn't hav one as its got no gas supply ( In NI we had oil drums in the garden for heating and water).
As far as I'm aware all Mq's should have them for health and safety regulations.

Hi, as an MHS manager here's some info; if you've got a back boiler (behind the fire) then generally you'll need a carbon monoxide detector, also if you've got an open fire (coal or log fireplace). If you've got a wall mounted boiler-usually in the kitchen- which has a balanced flue you won't need one, the same if you've got electric heating. Yes, MHS check these every year and we replace them if they're faulty; but these are only annual checks. If it starts making a 'bip bip' sound it usually means the battery is running out of juice. If it makes a VERY loud continuous sound then you should open the windows and doors and ring us straight away. If you're not sure either way - RING US - we'd rather be safe than sorry.
