According to the paper, he gets
£100,00 a year to pay for staff including a cleaner
He gets his council tax paid
His utility bills paid
and £73,000 worth of repairs and refurbishments!
Two others also get similar perks. They earn over £93,000 a year and can't pay their gas bill !
and
He lives rent free!
I know, as it says in the paper, that he ahs to entertain lot, but FGS there are people living in MQs with 1940s style kitchens and there's "no money" to replace them. people with damp adn there's no moeny to replace it!
No wonder there's no money int eh DE/MOD budget.

Articles like this are sometimes misleading -the 100K per annum for staff will include a driver - who will be a serving soldier - and the cleaner will be on the books of ISS. Other staff will be cooks - also ISS - but only used when carrying out Official Entertaining.

His house will be an Official Residence - so no doubt massive!

Have you got a link?

I think things are just not fair in lots of things in the military ( as in other jobs too). When my Dh goes abroad for meeting ( longhaul0 he travels economy and his civl service equivilent,sp? travels first class . How is that right in any way?

Cheeky1Monkey · 07/04/2009 20:30

The reason why there is a difference in travel is that the Terms and Conditions of a Civil Servant are very different to those of the Armed Forces. If they were the same, then half of the civil servants would leave (might be on to something here).

If you are travelling over 4 hours on a flight then you should always travel at least business class. Get DH to check on this, at least he would have a little more leg room.

Very good point! I am a Civil Servant whilst DH is Army.

Sorry, no link. I did look on the website, but nothing there.

Last twice my Dh went London to LA he travelled economy , when he questioned it he was told no funding , but bloke who went with him (civil service) no problem .
I know terms can be different but it is very ammoying when they work in the same office.
Civil bloke flt L equivilent , my Dh wing Co.

my goodness! someone of that grade in my dept would never be allowed to fly club

hf128219 · 09/04/2009 15:27

Someone of that grade in my dept would never be allowed to fly club let alone first

Cheeky1Monkey · 10/04/2009 21:09

Whenever we travel, the senior person travels whatever they are entitled to, and the rest of the party travels the same, regardless.

The rules are there but most interpret them wrongly or bend them to their own interests. A civil servant should fly at whatever (equivalent) rank they hold, and if htey believe they should fly first class above the rest, then they shold hold their heads in shame (and maybe be classed as an MP going by the recent media representation).

flossie64 · 13/04/2009 14:23

Well to make it worse my Dh told me the bloke was looking forward to some nice holidays, when he retired this year, with all the flying points he had collected over the last few years. Its all so wrong.

If you were classed as an MP, you'd be a 2 Star- ie Admiral / General etc. And probably flying high. Ho hum.

Going back to the original OP - well all of us who live in MQs pay an element for council tax - and I bet your General is on exactly the same deal.
