Oh how lovely for you to hear his voice, how long has he been out there!

I know how you feel, my Ex b/f is a soldier and when he was serving in Ireland I had many a breakdown after a phone call. x

ScottishMummy · 02/04/2009 23:55

nice post!your man loves you and the wee man too.difficult times i know but take care.great you heard from him

hf128219 · 03/04/2009 10:12

That's great! The line is usually pretty clear too which helps

fin54 · 04/04/2009 12:42

Oh I got my first phone call this morning from my son who went this week I was delighted to hear from him and yes the line was a clear as if he was phoning from ten minutes down the road.

hf128219 · 04/04/2009 12:52

Remember you are also able to leave a message via that system. Just like an answering machine!

Mercy2 · 04/04/2009 18:00

Its been fab! because he's not doin too much until he gets acclimatised to the heat etc, he's called twice and managed to get onto MSN.
I left him a voice message on his phoecard account after a glass (or two) of wine, so you can imagine how soppy i was!! lol..

It is soooo clear! youre right.
it still doesn't feel real that he's over there. He's been away so much for the last year, i guess i am already adapted to being on my own with Riley.

I am worried that It'll hit me all at once and I'll fall to pieces!

Hi Mercy2, I'm assuming that your other halve is with the same company as my son as he also is not doing much this week until he is acclimatised to the weather and then he said they move on to an other part.
your lucky in the fact that you can leave a message or speak on msn as my son has told me he didn't take mobile or laptop (typical of him )so I have to wait on his phone call's. I have a box all ready to post to him on Monday morning (typical mum )

Keep your chin up and enjoy Riley.

Mercy2 · 05/04/2009 00:21

hi fin54.
if he's in a main camp, then they should have a computer suit where he can book a time slot to go on msn.
They aren't allowed mobiles as its a security thing.
my screen name gives a hint to hubby's regiment. maybe ur son is in the same unit.
if you get his card number for hisphonecard you can leave him a voicemail.

is it his first time out there??

Hugs,
m x

HI Mercy2, yes its the first tour of Afghanistan for his regiment although they were in Iraq three times.

As for your screen name, I can't conect it to the regiment so maybe their not in the same one.

If you want you can email me at [email protected] as I noticed you lived in NI. I aslo live in NI.

supergluebum · 05/04/2009 12:31

How do you leave a message????? I have only had sporadic calls from my DH in the last few weeks. He's in Kandahar. Lucky you getting a call!!

We do the bluey thing too. You can get special blueys from the HIVE, kids can do drawings etc then they get faxed from the HIVE on a special fax machine and come out the other side exactly the same.

Mercy2 · 06/04/2009 13:51

hi there supergluebum!!! (what a fab screen name),lol.
Call 080005100737 then when prompted just type in his 9digit paradigm card number! then you get 2mins to leave your message, i think the messages stay recorded for about 50 days so OH can keep listening to it whenever they like!

When you go to your hive, they should have paradigm info leaflets for partners. igot one last week.
you can also put extra phone credit so they can call more than their 30welfare mins they get given.
I put £30 onhubby's card which they said should last about 4hours worth of calls from the phones in the main camps. He is in Bastion at the mo.

Its so hard when they can't call home often, I know that as he gets into doin his proper patrols and stuff my calls from hubby will get fewer. last tour he went on it was 3-4weeks between calls sometimes. which was REALLY tough.

BIG hugs hun,
M x x x

Mercy2 · 06/04/2009 15:45

Its ok chick!
We're all in the same boat at one time or another. and no matter what job they're doin, its still hard being apart.

Do what i do and hav a wee glass of wine before you leave your message!!! lol. it helps to let he soppiness out! haha.

Luv and hugs

Mmmh will consider the wine option! Thank you for your words. Because we live OS we have the BFBS news in addition to the usual news and it is often focused (of course) on ops. It tells a bigger picture of what is going on for the guys and gals than the masses get in the UK and sometimes that's hard to watch because you feel emmersed in it. But I really do feel for those of you whose husbands are doing front line infantry or flying jobs, it must be a massive worry. argghhhhh (((hugs))))

HomeintheSun · 08/04/2009 21:29

Supergluebum where abouts are you living?

Mercy2 DS was 9 months when DH went away for 4 months, I spent so long teaching him to say dad, (so he could do it on the phone) he thought that I was called dad and when DH came back on R&R he called him mum, it took ages for him to get it right. We got a pack thing for children for them to right letters and send pics so I used to write to DH from DS iykwim.

I'm thinking of all you ladies with OH's away and sending you all lots of love.

supergluebum · 08/04/2009 21:34

Supergluebum up the road from Chris' on the strip, then me too, we've been here just over 2 years, DH is here at the moment but off to the UK for a course for a week he leaves on Sunday so will just be me and DS. I quite like it when DH get to go on course in the uk cause he goes shopping for me, at the moment I really want cream crackers and can't find any over here. Let me know if you wanna meet up sometime and we can go for coffee and cake. Off to bed now love to everyone.

supergluebum · 13/04/2009 18:31

I probably already know you LOL!!! How funny! Yes, will give you a shout! Had a phone call today first one in about 10 days and it was for about 20 mins (in 3 chunks sadly...comms go down constantly), but not complaining a call is a call...It was fab x
