Idon't know if it is appropriate to post this here so please feel free to redirect me.

My DHs Flight are planning on running 4 marathons in 4 days in the 4 UK countries in a couple of weeks. So if you are at any of the follwoing stations and see a bunch of tired looking guys running around please give them a wave and cheer them on.

Aldergrove
Cosford
Valley
Kinloss

DHs Flt Sgt is raising money for the hospital that treated his wife when she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She made a complete recovery and he is so grateful he has been egging the Flight on to more and more wierd and wonderful fund raising experiences. In May they swam 14 miles across the Moray Firth!

Thanks in advance

That's pretty damn impressive.

flossie64 · 06/12/2008 19:45

Good luck to them ,you better get a job lot of tiger balm in for the aches and pains afterwards.
I probably won't see them ,but we used to be at Kinloss and I will be driving past tomrrow on my way from Lincoln to Hopeman !!
My Ds has just passed his driving test and I am taking him a car up.
God I must be mad

empressorchid · 08/12/2008 20:41

Flossie - Lincoln to Hopeman! You must be mad hope the journey went well and there weren't too many roads closed closed across the Cairngorms!

Thanks for the words of support

Do let us all know how they get on .
I did ok on the drive . it was sunny all they way to forres then it got very dull.
still it was worth it to see my (little) lad get his car, all 6'4" of him !!!!
then of course I booked 1st class to go home in comfort on the train.

empressorchid · 13/12/2008 21:49

They are leaving for their first port of call at 2am tomorrow and start their first marathon at 0100 on Monday! More fool them, I know I couldn't do it

Glad the drive was OK flossie. It has been a bit dull up here recently and we've had more grey skies and rain today I keep watching for the snow but it doesn't get this close to the sea!

I'll let you know how they get on, their last marathon is Thursday and they are running from Grantown-on-Spey to the gates at Kinloss. I'll try and update you on Friday.

You haven't been there long enough if you think you don't get snow there.
I have been snowed in quite a few times when I was in Hopeman. We only lived about 200 metres from the beach.

empressorchid · 19/12/2008 20:33

Oh fab Flossie - I've been dying to take my DS sledging but we've been up here for 20 months now and it hasn't snowed much at all. Had about two days last year and one day so far this winter!! I wish it would snow properly,

As for the lads and their marathons:

Those who completed the runs did so in under Four hours each! Two of them managed all 4 marathons, one managed three and one had to pull put half way through the third because of injury. But they managed their target of all four under four hours. They are all shattered but pleased to be finished.

They managed to raise about £3000 for their charity.

That is a fantastic acheivement!! Very well done to all of them.
Way back when, pre-children and newly married, I did the Gurkha Challenge and ran 62.5 miles in just over 12 hours. I was lucky enough to be working in London at the time on the trading floor for a large financial institution (ie lots of big salaries) and I managed to raise just over £5000 (the bank did match funding too).
I am all too aware of how hard it is to a) run the race and b) collect the sponsorship.
I had a small win on the premium bonds yesterday empressorchid and if you can find out which cancer charity your DH's Flight likes to support I would like to donate my bond win to that charity,

thanks littlelapin. I'm not normally so generous but I'm feeling melancholy tonight and the message bought back some really happy memories.

Why didn't I see this earlier! We are so close to Grantown, would have loved to cheer them off.

Well done them!

mckenzie · 19/12/2008 21:37

I was amazed at people's generosity too. People sponsored me great amounts but when i went to collect the money and they saw the state of my feet (I lost 8 toe nails!) lots of people double the amount. and I agree, you probably wouldn't get that response now

yup! The route is quite undulating and it was probably caused by the downhill bits. I got blisters under the nails and had to have them lanced. Sooooooooooooo painful!

flossie64 · 20/12/2008 09:10

Well done to all of them.
I bet they are milking the sympathy vote from everyone now
3 cheers for the Kinloss boys
