MHS being OVERLY efficient... bu***r!

DH has just pulled the handle off the small window in the kitchen whilst trying to close it at bedtime.

It still shuts but is not secure; our kitchen is at the front of the house as well.

So DH rang MHS to report it and has been told that someone will be here in 2 -3 hours

Fabulous that they are sorting out our security as soon as possible, but now we have to stay up till (possibly) 1am waiting for a rather grumpy workman who has been called out on an emergency at an ungodly hour! and we both have to leave for work at 7 30/ 7 45 tomorrow!

The dog is all confused as well as we had just put him to bed in the kitchen and now we have got him up again!

The kettle is on... better get the biccies out to placate the MHS man when he arrives...

MODern Housing Solutions (MHS) is a purpose built joint venture company, made up from Carillion plc and Enterprise plc.

It is specifically constructed to deliver the maintenance of Service Families Accommodation (SFA). It is therefore able to bring the maximum flexibility and responsiveness to the task.

Pan · 01/09/2008 00:00

Yes, I know of Modern Housing Solutions. HAve heard of them as part of a the contract wit hthe MoD.
But why SFAs should expect a better service than civvies is still an odd one.

hf128219 · 01/09/2008 00:05

I think that is your main gripe point.

Good quality housing to MOD personnel is paramount. Women/men in civy street don't tend to get left at home alone for periods of 9 months while their spouses are in a war zone.

No gripe at all, hf, and I am suprised you are so defensive about it. Still, lots of civvies are left permanently at home with no spouse, so still unsure about the expected balance in service.....

yes, herbietea I think that's the difference isn't it? Most civvy tenants face worse circumstances, but the forces people appear to expect something elevated. Not sure why.

I have every right to be defensive - and to make a point to someone who clearly does not understand the situation.

Lots of civilians left at home? Some, yes - but not in these circumstances. At least people can get a visiting order to Strangeway/Barlinnie etc.

We are miles from family, moving every 2 years, the time between operational tours is being reduced - the key issue is that a stable home environment for the services is crucial to prevent soldiers who are deployed on complex and demanding operations from worrying what is going on back home.

Pan · 01/09/2008 00:27

Whoa!! You are equating la/ha people as being criminal re the visiting orders for prison. think again.

I see that a broken window handle complained by the OP was seen to in 30 mins. THAT would be heaven for most other tenants.

No, it appears that families of men, and women who choose a career of killing other people around the world demand better service as a right than those people who choose something else.

So 30 mins for a broken handle, broken by the tenant. The OP has nooo grounds to complain. In my very humble opinion.

hf128219 · 01/09/2008 00:36

'lots of civvies are left permanently at home with no spouse' - your words. In what circumstances then?

If they are left permanently I immediately think of

  1. Death
  2. Prison
  3. Divorce/Seperation

So I am not equating LA or HA people with being criminal.

If you want the same service go and join an Armed Services dating web site.

"No, it appears that families of men, and women who choose a career of killing other people around the world demand better service as a right than those people who choose something else."

That is a very very offensive comment. My DH did not choose a career of killing other people. He chose a career of defending our country.

I don't think the OP was complaining, just shocked that our normally mediocre service was being efficient for a change. We have a right to expect more as the service used to be much better, but they have centralised everything & as a result the service levels have decreased. We're still paying the same charge for the service we get, so why should we be happy with a reduction in what we are getting?

I think you really ought to steer clear of this topic in the future.

Pan · 01/09/2008 08:51

No, your right, I do usually avoid "Forces Sweethearts" as a rule. The whole concept and title is repugnant. This is the first time I have ventured here since expressing exception to it's being instituted.

No, the OP was complaining about how long it will take to fix a broken handle. For other tenants, a promise of having someone there in 2-3 hours would be a real result. But not for our forces sweethearts it seems.

And wrong again, ll, not in a foul mood at all! Life is rather sweet at the mo., thanks. But that seems to be your easy way to explain my motive. That's fine.
And if your dh is being paid to be a water carrier and a customs officer, I would be requesting a reduction in armed forces expenditure.

And again, no. Recent evidence of this thread shows a desperately narrow view of council tenants without partners there as being in a criminal. A pretty nasty little antediluvian view of other people. But then, oppressive institutions do have the effect of moulding such ways of thinking.

Promise to not wander over here again. This "complaint" was a real corker though.

Pan · 01/09/2008 08:55

sorry "criminal class" it should have said.

btw - the OP gets a "good result" from the organisation, and then complains of how this is sooo disruptive to her life. Wonderful.

Flamesparrow · 01/09/2008 08:56

You really aren't getting it!!!

She called to report the broken handle - as I assume is in the rules of the tenancy. That was all she was doing. If they operate a 24hr service, or as with my private agent there is an answer phone, why not phone as and when it happens?

THEY said that someone would be out asap, which stunned her, but also meant she would be up til the early hours. I'd be groaning if my landlord decided that it needed fixing immediately.

So, you don't want LL's husband killing people, but you also don't want him organising fresh water and helping people? What do you want?

It was not a complaint about the speed it was being fixed. Had it been in any other section then it would just have been someone talking about their landlord.

Grr.

FourArms · 01/09/2008 08:56

Is your branding of our DP's as killers not another example of narrow thinking?

RustyBear · 01/09/2008 08:58

"No, the OP was complaining about how long it will take to fix a broken handle"

Actually, she wasn't.

She was making the point that MHS sending someone out so quickly was as unusual as - oh, let's say Man City being 3rd in the table & Man Utd 9th....

hf128219 · 01/09/2008 08:58

Pan - one more thing. Where I am based I pay 2.5 times the cost of an LA/HA property for my SFA. Another reason for a good service where it is warranted.

Again you have jumped on the bandwagon re my comment re Visiting Orders - I was not (and am not) banding people criminal - that was your interpretation.

Shoshe · 01/09/2008 09:01

Do not let Pan rile you he has made offensive and repugnant remarks about the Military before.

Ignore him, we know our Husbands and Wives do a good and valuable job.

Pan · 01/09/2008 09:02

so...the shock of being promised such a speedy service is then undermined by the complaint of disruption to time management to allow the person in to do the job!! What on earth do you people want!!

hf128219 · 01/09/2008 09:04

You still have not answered my question -

'lots of civvies are left permanently at home with no spouse' - your words. In what circumstances then?

Romy7 · 01/09/2008 09:04

hf - aren't you supposed to be waiting for the removal men?

Pan · 01/09/2008 09:05

yes shoshe - we are many miles apart with no chance of meeting amicably on this. So I'll avoid this section. No good will come of it Just this particular thread was tooo tempting and perhaps an easy target.

Good day.

Flamesparrow · 01/09/2008 09:06

Have you seriously never had something happen quicker than you expected which was then slightly annoying?? Our virgin was playing up. I called them on a Saturday, expecting them to send someone to sort it one day the next week.

Noooooo, they decided to be efficient for once and send someone at 8.30am on MOTHER'S DAY!

Yes, i was pleased at the speed and the service, but still pissed off at getting up on Mother's Day to fix the on demand for the tv (not even the main tv was broken)
