Hi, my soon husband to be (4th Oct)is based with QDG's in Paderborn in Germany, we would like to go and join him in April when he returns from tour, but my DD2 has brain tumour, has just finished course of treatment, but due to a huge cyst next to tumour, has to have it drained twice a week.

She was diagnosed at 5 months, so not a new situation but has become more complicated over the years she is now 9. Various other complications, no chance of removal, not sure what future holds.

Does anyone have any experience of anyone in Germany who's child is treated at a Germany hospital ?? Does anyone know if the Army would allow me to go to Germany ?? as im guessing they would foot bill as not NHS, sorry its long any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks MM, but we have decided to wait until he comes back from afgan and look at situation then.

I would prefer for the situation to be more settled (that could be wishful thinking !!) but having been to see consultant today he is thinking of putting some radiotherapy injection into the cyst (in the brain), to stop it filling up (hopefully ) and then we wouldnt need twice weekly drains, then situation is a lot easier to deal with, for the time being.

But whatever happens assess things when he gets back.

I have another question for all you fountains of knowledge

If we lived in paderborn which school would DD1 and DD2 go to. DD1 11, DD2 9, i read somewhere that they may have to be weekly boarders ????

Are the schhols any good ??

think the secondary in gutersloh is nearest but will try and dig out the garrison guide.
you should just call CEAS on that number i gave you before though - they will answer all your education questions for germany, not just sn ones
very hopeful that the consultant is looking at new ways of managing, though - hope it it works well for you both xx

Hi lydle3 as others have mentioned

there is a primary in paderborn &
secondary in gutersloh - its about 40 minutes or so on the bus in the morning
in general in germany if the school is over an hour on the bus the children board.

If St Vincenz cannot provide the care, then you would be taken by Garrison transport to a hospital which could. I am still intouch with some of the practice nurses at Barker Med Centre & can get more advice - but would need a little more medical history

For a weekly commute there are flights daily if not twice a day from Paderborn to Stansted.
It is great if other MN can put you in touch with people who may help you in QDG. However AWS can 'think outside of the box' when it comes to postings.
