don't want to impose on your board... but have a question

You can ask , but who knows what the answer might be
Thats of course because we don't know the question.

Is this about your quest to find a new dp? (you had a thread about this recently!) Is a prospective new dp in the forces? ooh how exciting.

Alambil · 06/07/2008 11:31

Well, I've joined a site for the forces - it's a penpal come dating site..

Anyway - got an address of a army soldier in Iraq who'd like me to write to him

So, what do I write about? Just general things; do I avoid anything?

I know that is a really silly question, but I'd rather not upset a soldier who has my address LOL!

Are there no single guys on the penpal site?!

Alambil · 06/07/2008 11:48

yes!

Write to them as well if possible. Tell them about your day to day life, what you've been up to etc. Even send a photo!

It's all to do with keeping their spirits up and that there is a life going on back home.

Alambil · 06/07/2008 12:17

yeah, going to find some more to write to

nannynick · 06/07/2008 12:47

Are you specifically looking for someone in the forces, or just any man who will accept a letter/e-mail from you? If the latter, you could write to me I read that you are starting teacher training (primary) soon. We possibly have something in common.
As one of the handful of men on mumsnet, I'm probably a bit odd... but my occupation isn't something that gets discussed on men's boards!

Alambil · 06/07/2008 12:54

LOL nick, I don't think you're odd!

Will write to anyone, me lol; not specifically forces people

Sidge · 06/07/2008 13:13

I think most servicemen like getting mailies. I would chat about all sorts of general stuff, eg what you've been up to, what's in the news and what you think of it, your family etc. I agree with LL no flirting LOL and parcels are lovely, especially sweets, biscuits (no chocolate) and toiletries.

Bear in mind replies may be a bit erratic as post can be irregular. Also date your letters, and also put the date on or number the envelopes as he may get them out of sequence and then they make no sense!

Alambil · 06/07/2008 13:15

oh good tip about dating - didn't think of that

I'll just keep it perfectly platonic.... have loads of male mates

OP posts:
nannynick · 06/07/2008 13:29

nice to hear that you don't think I'm odd
Feel free to e-mail me, not often I get to chat with single ladies.

Sidge · 06/07/2008 13:49

This site may be useful too!

Alambil · 06/07/2008 16:46

Done nick

Thanks Sidge

ok next question - do you have to pay postage for a letter to a BFPO address?

Can you tell I've not done this before!
