Ds is off to CCF camp - will he survive? Do we need to soak his feet in meths or anything?! Any tips?

I feel a bit of an intruder in this topic when I've only got a cadet in the family! But have you got any tips? It's a whole week he's away; he's quite tough and fit, but still...I worry...His boots do fit him; I'm going to buy loads more thick socks. And equip him with plasters. And give him a 'proper' sleeping bag. Also, he's well accustomed to staying away from home with other groups so I know he won't be homesick. He's just not great at reporting to those in charge when he's got a health problem, eg itches, blisters, etc.

Welcome Fauve!
Lots of socks, plasters etc
If his sensibilities will allow, a pack of baby-wipes will come in handy.

Then, just a bottle of wine and a few good movies to keep you occupied when he is away

unfitmother · 16/06/2008 19:58

I remember doing that - I survived!!

He'll have a great time

Fauve · 16/06/2008 19:59

Oh thanks, baby-wipes are a great idea. Better choose MANLY ones, though!

Brilliant, LL. I hope they sell them in Blacks or Millets - although I have got time to do it online.

Ha, I already sent him on a short course in shooting cos he couldn't get the hang of it in CCF! I should hope he knows how to hold the damn thing now. I thought he might go off CCF altogether if he didn't get the hang of target practice; seems to have worked.

He looks v fine in his uniform Or hench, as he might say.

I suggest some compeed blister plasters, hubby used them when on some arduous course many moons ago and he swore by them, Hope he enjoys it

Romy7 · 17/06/2008 11:26

no meths! that hardens the outside of the skin and you get blisters underneath hte hard patch...

he'll have a lovely time, but check for love bites when he gets back...

ah, those were the days...

Fauve · 17/06/2008 18:48

Love bites! I hadn't thought they would be fraternising!!!!!!!!! That's worse than blisters.

SammyC, what are Compeed blister plasters? Should I just ask the chemist?
