How do you cope with the long waits?

I have just got with a lovely guy who is in the RAF, but being posted to Afgan on Sunday for 3 weeks, then back for 4 days then off to Northern Iraq for another 2 weeks.

  1. How do you manage the time apart when you miss them so much?
  2. Do you ever worry about not actually seeing them again?

My DH is in the Navy and goes away for around 4 months usually. I keep busy by making sure I have something planned every day, even if it's just taking the children to the park or library, or meeting friends for coffee.

The evenings can be lonely but I watch TV, read, come on Mumsnet! Weekends are also difficult but we try and catch up with friends who are free.

I try not to think about him never coming home, I think I'd go bonkers if I did that every time he went away.

I keep really really busy. Lots of things planned so I never really get time to sit and brood about DH being away.

No. I don't even start to think like this.

  1. Keep really really busy, but I need moping time too. I need to feel sorry for myself and give myself treats .
  2. Don't let yourself think about number two. It is a downward spiral.

Oh, and watch films you know they would hate, real chick flicks, and eat food they don't like. (I have a lot of courgettes when dh is away .)
